Washington State University

Michael J. Tate is Washington State University's vice president for equity and diversity. He has been interim vice president since last fall. Tate was assistant director of extension at Michigan State University, where he received a doctorate in extension education and administration.

Tacoma General Hospital

Tacoma General Hospital named Shelly Mullin administrator. She will oversee clinical and operational activities. Mullin started as a staff nurse in the Tacoma General Emergency Department in 1986, and was most recently administrative director of surgical services.

Alderbrook

Alderbrook Resort & Spa appointed Martin McCormack corporate sales manager. McCormack worked as a sales manager at the Marriott Hotel Waterfront in Seattle and also managed the restaurant at Marriott Hotel in Los Angeles. Sam Askew is rooms division manager. Askew directed hotel operations at Little Creek Casino Hotel in Shelton and managed inns in Reno, Nev., and Palm Desert, Calif. Mark Phelan is food and beverage manager. Phelan was a management assistant in Tucson, Ariz., and worked at Big Time Brewery and Alehouse in Seattle. Alderbrook is located on the shores of the Hood Canal.

Washington State Bar Association

Robert A. Blackstone, a partner in Davis Wright Tremaine's Seattle law office, was elected to the executive committee of the Washington State Bar Association's Labor and Employment Law Section. Blackstone focuses his practice on labor and employment law.

Island Partners Hawai'i

Destination management company Island Partners Hawai'i named Tony S. Vericella managing director to work on corporate planning. Vericella will also do similar work as a partner and senior executive at hospitality and tourism company SHG, which acquired Island Partners Hawai'i last year.

Vericella has 28 years of senior level experience in global travel and tourism, including work at the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau and as a marketing consultant to Hawai'i- and Asia-based companies in hotel management, broadcast media and travel retailing. He lives in Honolulu with his wife, Dana, and their 16-year old triplets.

Erin Jansen joined the Kirkland marketing agency Write Image as a senior editorial account manager. Jansen wrote the book "NetLingo: The Internet Dictionary," and started http://www.NetLingo.com. Jansen will work with the Channel Marketing team, focusing on the Microsoft account.

The Westin Seattle added Amanda Rapp as business travel sales manager and named Maia Segura and Mairead Quinn sales managers. Rapp was the business travel sales manager and executive meeting manager at W Seattle. Segura was with DoubleTree Seatac as catering manager. Quinn was sales manager at Salish Lodge and Spa. Anderson was food and beverage manager of Seattle Sheraton Hotel & Towers.

Williams, Kastner & Gibbs

Mary Spillane of the Seattle office of Williams, Kastner & Gibbs was elected for membership in the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers. The academy honors appellate lawyers and promotes improvement of appellate advocacy and administration of the appellate courts. Spillane is on the board of directors at Williams, Kastner & Gibbs. Her practice focuses on health care law, medical malpractice and products liability defense litigation.

Scolr Pharma

Bellevue pharmaceutical company Scolr Pharma named Michael N. Taglich chairman its the board of directors. Taglich, a founder and principal of the New York investment banking firm Taglich Brothers, will succeed David Howard, who announced plans to retire.
