America's Foundation for Chess hired Nicole DiMartino as director of program development and training. DiMartino was a teacher for eight years in Michigan and Illinois. The Kirkland-based nonprofit promotes chess in American schools.
The Seattle office of law firm Garvey Schubert Barer announced Hank T. Wang, an owner in the firm's Beijing office, was chosen to serve as vice president of the University of Washington China office. The University of Washington plans to open an office in Beijing to expand its presence in China. Wang has practiced international law for 30 years.
State Sen. Erik Poulsen, D-West Seattle, is leaving the Washington State Legislature to serve as government relations director for the Washington Public Utilities Districts Association, a nonprofit agency that represents 28 public electric and water utilities throughout the state. Poulsen was chair of the Senate Water, Energy & Telecommunications Committee.
Seattle-based outdoor equipment retailer Recreational Equipment, Inc. will open new stores in Schaumburg and Lincoln Park, Ill. This will double REI's presence in the Chicago metropolitan area by 2008.

Wells Fargo Private Client Services hired Sabrina Seward to the Seattle team as vice president and senior private banker. Private Client Services offers investment products and services to individuals and families.
The Port of Tacoma hired Robert Stromberg as senior program manager. He will lead the design and construction effort for new terminal development on the east side of the Blair Waterway. Stromberg was a senior associate with the Nielsen-Wurster Group in Seattle.
Washington Mutual in Seattle hired John P. McMurray as chief credit officer. McMurray was senior managing director and chief risk officer at Countrywide Financial in Calabasas, Calif.

Seattle-based WatchGuard Technologies, a provider of security appliances and threat management solutions, hired Eric Aarrestad as vice president of marketing. Aarrestad is a senior business executive with 18 years of marketing and business development experience who last worked at Microsoft.
The Port of Tacoma hired Paulette Harris as senior accountant in the finance department. Harris was senior accountant for Vulcan Inc. in Seattle.
Bothell-based Parity Corp., a provider of food and beverage manufacturing software and services, expanded its consulting division by hiring Kyle Stemmer. Stemmer has experience with a CPA and business advisory firm.
