Seattle-based CellNetix Pathology & Laboratories, a provider of diagnostic pathology and laboratory services to physicians, hired Mark Edgar to the downtown Seattle location as a pathologist. Edgar was an associate professor at Weill Medical College of Cornell University.
Redmond-based Friends of Youth hired Divya Kumar as marketing and communications manager and Christina Cuenca as grants manager. Both will work in the Development Department. Kumar recently worked for marketing and event management companies in Dubai and in India. Cuenca has seven years experience in institutional fundraising and worked at Madison Square Boys & Girls Club.
J. Tayloe Washburn, a member of Foster Pepper's Land Use and Environmental practice groups, has been inducted as chair of the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce. Washburn's term will last for one year. He will also lead an effort to enhance the region's global health cluster, and head an international study mission to Abu Dhabi and Dubai next March.

Vulcan Inc. said John Howie, chef and owner of the Seastar Restaurant & Raw Bar in Bellevue, will open his first Seattle Seastar in the 2200 complex in South Lake Union. The restaurant should open in early 2009 above the Whole Foods Market and will seat 145 guests. The restaurant will also provide room service to the Pan Pacific Hotel Seattle next door.
The Washington Women's Foundation appointed Carla Lewis as president. Lewis spent 25 years at Microsoft and Paccar, and succeeds Colleen Willoughby, the organization's founder and leader since 1995. Willoughby will continue to serve on the board. Other leaders in the foundation are Marion DeForest as deputy director, Megan Davies as program manager and Schuyler Charf as manager of information and communications systems.
The Starwood Hotels & Resorts group promoted Keri Robinson, general manager of the Sheraton Seattle Hotel, to area managing director of 10 Starwood hotels in Southern California. She will also take on the position of general manager at the Westin Gaslamp Quarter San Diego. Matthieu G. Van Der Peet, former opening general manager of Starwood's Westin Bellevue, has been named the new general manager in Seattle. He has 25 years of hotel management experience.
Seattle-based Rainier Investment Management hired Michael D. Emery as senior equity portfolio manager and analyst in the Equity Management Team. Emery will focus on the technology and health care sectors and has 13 years of investment experience.

Berk & Associates, a public policy and management consultancy, hired Allegra Calder as a senior policy analyst and Jay Rogers as a financial/policy analyst. Calder will work in the Strategic Planning and Policy Development Practice and was recently a manager at Washington Mutual. Rogers will work in the Finance and Economics Practice and previously worked for the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis in Washington, D.C.
The Northwest Indian Bar Association announced its 2008-2009 governing council. They are President Lael Echo-Hawk, President-elect Michael Douglas, Treasurer Brooke Pinkham, Secretary Bree Kameenui-Ramirez, and at-large members Marvin Beauvais, Angelique Eaglewoman and Lee Shannon. NIBA is a nonprofit organization of over 200 Native and Indian law attorneys, judges, spokespersons and students in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Alaska.
