Several Virginia Mason Medical Center providers will serve in leadership roles for health-care organizations beginning this year. Carrie Horwitch, an associate program director in General Internal Medicine, is the new governor-elect for the Washington Chapter of American College of Physicians. Jeaux Rinehart, a nurse in Emergency Medicine, has been elected president of the Washington State Emergency Nurses Association. Kathleen Kobashi, a urologist and head of Urology and Renal Transplantation, was elected president of the Washington State Urology Society for a two-year term through 2010. Fred Govier, a urologist and chief of surgery for the Department of Surgery, was elected the 2009 president of the Northwest Urology Society. He is also the 2009 president-elect of the western section of the American Urologic Society.

Douglas Epperson, associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University, has been named dean of the College of Liberal Arts at Washington State University. Epperson will begin on Feb. 1. He has been associate dean at ISU since 2003 and is also a professor of psychology.
Clothier & Head, a Seattle-based public accounting firm, announced Julie Connolly is a new principal of the firm. Connolly has been a member of the Tax Service Department since 2004.
Spokane-based Sterling Savings Bank announced Heidi Stanley, chief executive officer of the bank, will become chair of the board of directors. She succeeds William Zuppe, co-founder of Sterling Financial Corp., who is retiring as chairman and as a member of the board of directors. Zuppe will continue to serve as a director of Sterling Financial, the parent company of Sterling Savings Bank. Sterling also promoted Greg Seibly to president from executive vice president and chief production officer, and Ezra Eckhardt to executive vice president and chief operating officer from executive vice president and chief administrative officer.

West Coast law firm Bullivant Houser Bailey appointed Toni Anders, Abby Wool Landon and Todd Norris to shareholder. Anders has been a member of the Seattle office since 2003. Landon is a member of the Portland office. Norris is a member of the San Francisco office.
Berk & Associates, a public policy and management consultancy, hired Emmy Heatherington as a project associate in the Finance and Economics Practice. She recently held a supervisory position with the Transportation Department at the University of Southern California.
Pierce County has extended its management agreement with KemperSports to operate Chambers Bay Golf Course beyond the 2015 U.S. Open to be held at Chambers Bay. The course, located in the city of University Place, will also host the 2010 U.S. Amateur. KemperSports has managed the property since its opening in 2007.
Private Chef has opened its first retail location in downtown Seattle. The store features a selection of frozen dinners, fresh salads and handmade chocolates. The store is located in the Central Building at 810 Third Ave. The entrance is on Marion Street.
