Bullivant Houser Bailey, a West Coast law firm, announced Beth Skillern is the new president. Skillern has practiced law with Bullivant for more than twenty years and was recently the firm's general counsel. She succeeds David Ernst, who will focus on his practice of food-borne illness and general litigation.
Kenneth Scholz was elected president of the Western Washington Fair Association, Puyallup, by the board of directors following the annual shareholders meeting. He will oversee events at the Puyallup Fair & Events Center throughout the year. Other elected officers include Roger Knutson as vice president, Jerome Korum as secretary, Jerry Larson as treasurer and Kent Hojem as CEO/manager. Candace Porter Blancher was elected to join the board of directors.
Venture Wealth Management, a subsidiary of Venture Bank, hired Ellen Katske as an investment representative at the bank's Redmond Downtown Financial Center. Katske has 24 years of financial services experience. Venture Bank has 19 financial centers in four western Washington counties.

GreenRubino, formerly Hadley Green Creates, hired Tony Ballman as a developer and Lainie Williams as an interactive project manager. Ballman worked with West Seattle Design. Williams worked at Walmart.com. GreenRubino is a Seattle-based full service marketing agency.
Northwest Commercial Bank hired Matt Weber as assistant vice president for finance. He will assist newly named CFO Quinn Zander-Conn as the six-year-old bank continues growing. Weber has worked at the Frank Russell Co., Homestreet Bank and Seattle Mortgage Co.
Purple Cafe and Wine Bar hired Fernando Martinez as executive chef. Martinez is from Chile, learned to cook in Massachusetts, and has studied French, Italian, German, Middle Eastern, Indian and Asian cuisines.

Mayor Greg Nickels announced Stephen Johnson will serve as the acting director of the city's Office of Economic Development. Johnson, OED's neighborhood and community development manager, replaces Susan Shannon, who recently resigned. Johnson will lead OED as a search is conducted for a permanent director.
Seattle-based Wetpaint announced Rob Grady will join the company as senior vice president of marketing. Grady worked at Starbucks for six years where he was recently vice president, global beverage.
Motricity, a Bellevue-based provider of mobile data solutions, hired Jim Smith as president and chief operating officer, Richard Leigh as senior vice president and general counsel, Deepak Dhawan as senior vice president solutions and services and Abe Danzinger as vice president sales engineering.
