Paving industry warms up to new asphalt

    Workers last month applied the first warm mix asphalt pavement for the Seattle Department of Transportation. The section is on Fourth Avenue South near Qwest Field.

    ASPHALT may seem like a standard material that doesn't change much over time. But a revolution is under way. Across the country, agencies are moving to a new standard called “warm mix asphalt” that saves energy and creates less greenhouse gas emissions.
