The Seattle office of Turner Construction has moved to a new location. It is now located at 830 Fourth Ave. S., Suite 400. The phone number is (206) 505-6600. The company also announced Thomas B. Gerlach Jr. has become vice president and general manager of its Seattle business unit. Gerlach comes from Turner's Chicago office, where he served as manager of the Special Projects Division. Turner further announced that vice president Thomas G. Mormino will manage its Portland office. He spent the last seven years managing the Seattle office.
Prezant Associates Inc. has been appointed to be a Safety Plus Verifier by the Washington Department of Labor and Industries. Prezant's approved verifiers are Rick Gleason, Jim Catalano and Neil Callahan. The Safety Plus Certification Program, sponsored by OSHA and L&I, is designed to recognize and reward construction contractors who have demonstrated a firm commitment to developing superior safety programs. Contractors who can document their safety performance and procedures are exempt from routine job site inspections. This certification is accomplished by an independent third party verifier who reviews safety records and conducts jobsite inspections to confirm safety procedures.
State Department of Labor and Industries Director Mark Brown has been appointed to a national advisory committee on worker safety and health in the construction industry by U.S. Department of Labor Secretary Robert Reich. The committee is called the Advisory Committee on Construction Safety and Health. It advises the Occupational Safety and Health Administration on standards and policies designed to protect construction workers from workplace hazards. The panel consists of five representatives each of workers and employers, two of state government, two public and one federal. Members serve two-year terms.
The Building Industry Association of Washington announced its builder awards at its annual conference Aug. 16 in Ocean Shores. The top award, Home Builder of the Year, went to Dottie Piazza of Piazza Construction in Mount Vernon. Remodeler of the Year honors went to Sandy McAdams of Kirkland-based Sandy's Design and Remodeling. Pat McBride of GMS Architectural Group in Bellevue was awarded Associate of the Year. Also, four members were named to the organization's Hall of Fame. They include: John Slott, Dave Baker, Frank Durston and John Piazza.

Connie Raguso has joined W.G. Clark Construction Co. as communications coordinator. She has 12 years of experience in corporate communications and marketing in the construction industry. The company also announced Monique Martinez has become the accounts payable processor. She assumed the position following a temporary accounting assignment with the firm. Martinez holds a mathematics degree from the University of California at Santa Cruz.
Dean Irwin, a former IMCO General Construction vice president and operations manager, has formed TEK Construction Inc. in Ferndale. Staff members include Steve Renner, Tim Yedinak and Steve Landis. The company is marketing itself in civil, structural and mechanical public works and private sector jobs. It offers expertise in water and wastewater treatment, environmental enhancement, hydroelectric and marine projects.
Debbie Campbell has been named inside sales representative for Cascade Western Representatives Inc.'s Kent office, which covers Washington, Northern Idaho and Alaska. Campbell's background includes 16 years in the electrical industry, in both distribution and working with electrical contractors in estimating and purchasing.
The Tri-City Construction Council, after many years in its existing location, has purchased a building in Kennewick for its new home.
