DPR Construction recently received top honors in the "customers" category of Arthur Andersen's sixth annual Global Best Practices Awards for creating customer value in the new economy. Some of the innovations DPR was cited for include its in-person customer satisfaction surveys before, during and after construction; customer-focused team meetings at the end of each project; and the use of wireless communication devices, database management and virtual meeting places.
Snyder Roofing has received the "Roofing Contractor of the Year" award from RSI Magazine. The company was the winner in the category of roofing contractors whose sales volumes exceed $30 million. Snyder was recognized for its excellence in workmanship combined with industry and community service. Snyder was founded in 1922 and is a family-owned and -operated company with offices in Snohomish and Tigard, Ore. The firm averages over 1,000 new construction, reroofing, repair and waterproofing projects each year in the Pacific Northwest. Recent projects include the Experience Music Project in Seattle and the Fox Tower in downtown Portland.
Thyssen Dover Elevator has changed its name to ThyssenKrupp Elevator. Other company-owned distributors -- including Sound Elevator, Arizona, General, Lagerquist, Miami and Security -- will also adopt the new name. Sound Elevator has served the Northwest for over 60 years and was bought by Dover Elevator in 1984. Dover Elevator was purchased by Thyssen Industries of Essen, Germany, in January 1999. Soon after, Thyssen and Krupp merged to become one of the world’s 50 largest companies. The new company provides a full range of elevators, lifts and escalators for a wide variety of passenger and freight needs. Elevator systems are manufactured at plants in Middleton, Tenn., and Walnut, Miss.

Members of the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties won honors in eight out of nine categories at the state remodeling awards, sponsored by the Building Industry Association of Washington. First & Goal, a company founded in 1997 by Paul Allen to manage the development, construction and operation of the Washington State Football/Soccer Stadium and Exhibition Center, announced that Jeffrey Klein, former director of stadium operations for the Seattle Mariners (1981–1991), has been named vice president/facility general manager for the new Washington State Football/Soccer Stadium and Exhibition Center (SEC). In his new position, Klein’s responsibilities include budget creation and management, organization, special events, and supervision of Stadium and SEC operational staff. Klein will also serve as liaison between the Seattle Seahawks and the National Football League.
Carter & Burgess, a consulting firm, announced the addition of Brad Stein as an associate. Stein serves as a vice president and transportation unit manager for the firm's Seattle office. He has more than 24 years of experience in the planning, design and construction of various transportation projects in the Northwest.
Eastside homebuilders Greg Newhall and Gary Jones have formed a new construction and land development company in partnership with John Stackman called Newhall Jones & Stackman. The company specializes in custom home building through its Encore Custom Homes division, which is headed up by Stackman, a 16-year industry veteran. A separate division focusing on affordable housing also is headed up by Stackman. The company is based in Bellevue.
Henning Landscape Services of Woodinville has merged with Lake East Grounds Maintenance Co. of Redmond to form a new company called Signature Landscape Services. Lake East Grounds, a division of Fox Hart Corp., was owned by Doug Hart and Linda Fox. They join Mark Henning and Susan Hanley of Henning Landscape Services, as principals of the new company. Signature serves the commercial/residential markets in the greater Puget Sound area. Its services include landscape management, water conservation and irrigation services, landscape renovation/construction, seasonal color programs, and container garden design and installation.
