The Associated General Contractors of Washington recently installed officers and trustees for 2002 and handed out achievement awards at its annual meeting. The Contractor of the Year award was given to Gary Jones of S&W Utility Contractors in Lakewood for his contributions to racial and gender diversity. The Affiliate of the Year award went to Doug Roach of Groff & Murphy in Seattle for his work in representing the association in court over the six-year contractor statute of repose. The association's 2002 officers include: President Bob Adams of Guy F. Heery International has made several promotions in its Seattle office, including Eric Becker, Lorraine B. Mead, Steven Nicholas and Matt Rogers to associates. The Seattle office is home to 75 construction managers, move managers, designers and planners working on projects such as the Seattle Public Schools Building Excellence Program and Sea-Tac Airport’s capital improvement program

Sellen Construction Co. has added Glenn Laurence and Amy Petri to its team. Laurence, a 24-year veteran of the construction industry, joins Sellen as a senior estimator, having recently served as the chief estimator and vice president of preconstruction at McCarthy. He is currently providing preconstruction services for improvements to Mason General Hospital. Petri is the firm's new marketing communications manager, bringing nine years of A/E/C industry experience from similar roles at Boxwood and LMN Architects. She will be responsible for marketing department and staff management, corporate communications and public relations activities, and helping develop Sellen’s overall marketing strategy and planning.
Heery International has promoted Seattle-based Bruce Herr to Northwest area manager. In the newly-created position, Herr will manage the Seattle operations and oversee Heery services in Washington, Alaska, northern Idaho and Montana. Herr previously was an integral part of Seattle Public School’s Building Excellence Program, where he has served in various construction program and project management capacities. He holds a bachelor’s degree in construction management from Colorado State University.
Aecon Buildings Inc. has promoted Didi Marquez from contract administrator to client relations. Marques has been working closely with the vice president of business development and the president to develop the firm's key account management program. The contract administrator position has been filed by Wendy Anderson. Anderson will provide administrative support to project managers and superintendents, and process job-related insurance certificates and claims.
Seattle's D.W. Close Co. has added Roy Burks as a project manager and Carlos Gonzalez as shop foreman. Burks has 25 years of estimating and project management experience, as well as a diverse background in the electrical industry. Gonzalez will oversee all warehouse operations and will be in charge of fleet management. D.W. Close is a MYR Group company.
Osborne Construction Co. has made several promotions in its Washington and Alaska operations. Ralph Smith has been named vice president of building operations for both Washington and Alaska; Chris Hardy is project manager for the Elim, Alaska, school addition and renovation project; Randy Barnes is project manager for the Chevak, Alaska, school replacement project; John Weller is senior project manager for the Loran Station project in George, Grant County, and the Martin Way project in Olympia; Johnny Wilson is senior project manager for the company's Fairbanks building operations; Tim Casad is manager of work procurement; Tyrone Filotei is senior project manager of the Alaska civil division; and Diane Grant is manager of administration/human resources.
