SouthernCarlson bought Manor Hardware & Construction Supply, a construction supply and tool repair business with locations in Everett, Tacoma and Lynnwood. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. SouthernCarlson says the Pacific Northwest is a strategic focus for it and buying Manor allows it to quickly expand here. Manor was family owned for 45 years, founded by Bob Duncan. Omaha, Nebraska-based SouthernCarlson distributes construction fasteners, tools, packaging and facility supplies. It is a subsidiary of Kyocera.
Bellevue-based Holmberg Mechanical says it won kudos from the Puget Sound Business Journal, making the Best Places to Work, Middle Market Fast 50 and Private Companies of the Year lists, as well as winning Most Admired CEO. The company also was on Inc. Magazine's 5,000 Fastest Growing Companies in America list, and won a safety award from MCA of Western Washington. Holmberg provides engineering and mechanical contracting in the Puget Sound region. Current projects include Colman Dock, Spire, Koda and the citizenM hotel in Pioneer Square.

Best Master's Programs, an online guide to master's degrees and careers, ranked the University of Washington's online master's degree program for construction management as best in the nation. The list of the 25 best online CM schools for 2021 was derived from tuition, alumni salary and student satisfaction data. Purdue University was second and the University of Illinois was third. Other Pac-12 schools on the list were Arizona State University (eighth) and the University of Southern California (12th).
The Construction Center of Excellence is holding a construction video contest for high school students called We Build Washington! The purpose of the statewide contest is to promote construction as an industry of choice from a student perspective. Construction craft students can showcase their building projects and win a $2,000 scholarship for first place, $1,000 for second and $500 for “people's choice.” Projects could range from a birdhouse to a shed to a bathroom remodel. The contest runs until Dec. 9. Scholarships may be used for an accredited college or university, or applied to apprenticeship programs.
