Roel Construction Co. Inc. has hired Jorge Rivero as project manager for its 161-unit Homewood Suites Elliott Bay Hotel project in Seattle. Rivero holds a construction management degree from Washington State University.
Arthur K. Langlie has been promoted to Seattle District manager at the Associated General Contractors of Washington. Langlie previously worked on the association's membership and local government affairs at AGC's Tacoma office. His new duties include membership development, local government affairs and oversight of services to the Seattle District members. Langlie replaces David Sween, who left to work with an AGC member company.
The Tilt-Up Concrete Association has selected F. Thomas Collins of Portland as the recipient of the Peter D. Courtois Memorial Award for his contributions to the tilt-up industry. Collins was instrumental in the early days of concrete tilt-up construction, writing "Building with Tilt-Up," the first book dedicated to the process.
"Organizing and Growing Your Construction Company," is the title of a Sept. 18 meeting of the Associated Builders & Contractors of Western Washington. The meeting will be held 7:30 a.m.-9 a.m. at the Holiday Inn at 101 128th S.E. in Everett. The event costs $14 in advance or $16 at the door. The registration deadline is Sept. 16. Puget Sound Chapter No. 60 of the National Association of Women in Construction is holding its next meeting Sept. 16 at the Yankee Diner restaurant in Bellevue (13856 Bel-Red Road). The meeting will include reports from three of the chapter's delegates who attended the recent NAWIC national convention in New Orleans. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. The charge for dinner is $18. The Mechanical Contractors Association of Western Washington is sponsoring a Sept. 16 seminar on pricing and bidding strategies. The seminar will be run by FMI Corp. ABC of Western Washington is sponsoring two seminars on asbestos awareness. The first will be held Sept. 16 at the CITC facility in Bellevue and the second Sept. 23 at the Executive Inn in Fife. Both will run from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Seminar presenter Bob Gilmore of Prezant Associates Inc. will cover the following topics: recognizing asbestos on the jobsite, personal protection, adverse health effects, avoiding fines and lawsuits, and a summary of regulations. The seminar costs $25 and is free to ABC firms participating in the retro program.
