SDL McCarthy

Steve Cox recently joined SDL McCarthy as its new safety director for the Northwest region. His responsibilities include developing safety programs, monitoring safety compliance on jobsites, safety training and managing workers' comp claims. Cox was previously safety manager at McCarthy's Midwest Division in St. Louis. He holds a degree in occupational safety from Illinois State University. The contractor also announced several recent promotions, including: Soo Hanson to project manager from project engineer; Robbyn Glisson to mechanical project manager from mechanical project engineer; Sherry Stuart to estimator; Mike Oliver to project manager from project engineer; and Rich Wells to project manager from project engineer.

Roel

The Seattle office of Roel Construction Co. Inc. has hired Rebecca Krauss as a project engineer. She has over 15 years of experience in the industry and holds a construction management degree from Texas A&M University.

BMC West

BMC West Corp. recently purchased Lone Star Plywood & Door Corp. of Coppell, Texas. That purchase included Lone Star's Hillsdale Sash & Door operations in Wilsonville, Ore., and Bothell.

Tom A. Armour has been appointed president and CEO of Donald B. Murphy Contractors Inc. and Cooney-McHugh Division. The company also announced Paul B. Groneck has been named executive vice president of operations and engineering. Armour joined the company in 1994 as project development and marketing manager. He has over 17 years of experience in the construction industry. Groneck joined the company in 1994 as chief engineer and projects manager.

NAWIC

The Puget Sound Chapter No. 60 of the National Association of Women in Construction recently installed Sabrina Roberts as its president. Roberts has served as the chapter's vice president and has worked on the organization's newsletter and program committees.

Roel Construction

Merle Pope has joined Roel Construction Co. Inc. as vice president of its Northwest group. Pope has over 30 years of experience in the industry. He previously worked for Howard S. Wright Construction Co. San Diego-based Roel recently opened a Seattle office to serve existing clients in the area.
