Whatcom County-based Tiger Construction has been recognized for its part in creating a safety video. The firm assisted The Big Twenty, the production company, and the Northwest Safety Training Council to create "CSTOP" the contractor safety training eight-hour pro-gram. The program was recently honored with the 1999 Telly Awards of Excellence for its production value. The video was shot earlier this year while Tiger installed a sewer main in Bellingham. The segment with Tiger was on proper trenching and excavation techniques.

Ledcor Industries of Mercer Island has hired Bob Gold and Ed Fisher as senior project managers, Chris Lee as a project manager and Barry Gilbert as vice president of special projects. Gold has 20 years of project management experience in commercial, retail and multi-family construction. Fisher's commercial construction experience spans 11 years, including roles in project management, business development, preconstruction services, estimating and safety. Lee has a background in light industrial, office, retail and hospitality construction. He also has experience in preconstruction services and cost development and control. Gilbert has 12 years of experience. He will be responsible for negotiating real estate and leasing deals for both Ledcor and Worldwide Fiber. In the immediate future, he will be focusing primarily on switch hotel deals for Worldwide Fiber.
The 1999 Carl Minor Award has been won by Superior Asphalt of Yakima for its work on highways 82 and 97 in the Yakima area. The project was selected by the state Department of Transportation from 33 nominations. It was judged superior on its quality of materials and smoothness of ride.
The Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties recently handed out awards for builder, remodelor and associate of the century. The remodelor award went to Omar Brown, who has been in the industry for 53 years and helped form the Remodelors Council. Patrick McBride won the associate award. He has been important to the architectural building industry's role of providing high-density, affordable housing. The builder award was presented to all past presidents of the association.
