Mike Pace has joined Approach Management as a safety and health specialist and Luis Cadavid has joined as a retro coordinator. Both will help administer the company's retrospective rating groups -- a program set up by the state Department of Labor and Industries to keep workers safe and minimize workers' compensation costs. Pace will work with companies to keep their workers safe while Cadavid will manage workers' compensation claims.
Cindy Johnson has been appointed service center manager for CertainTeed Corp.'s Insulation Group service center in Portland. The 125,000-square-foot facility is under construction on North Lombard in Portland. In her new position, Johnson will be responsible for setting up the center, hiring personnel and developing operating procedures and policies. Prior to her new post, she was a shift supervisor for the past 12 years for CertainTeed's Chowchilla, Calif., manufacturing facility.
A presentation on wage and hour laws will be made at the Feb. 24 breakfast roundtable meeting of the ABC of Western Washington. Lawyer Mark A. Clausen of Linville Clausen & Linton will speak on these topics: what should be included in written offers; overtime pay requirements for salaried staff; when employees are required to get time off; when independent contractors are considered employees; when employers are liable for double wages; and if employers must pay for company meeting time and daily clean-up time. The program will be held 7:30-9 a.m. at the Holiday Inn, 101 128th S.E., Everett. Cost is $17 until Feb. 14 and $21 after that. The registration deadline is Feb. 21. Lou Zonta has joined Ledcor Industries as manager of business development for the Seattle Office Building Division. Zonta has 18 years of experience in marketing and sales in related industries. His responsibilities include developing and implementing Ledcor's marketing strategy.
Mechanical contractor Hermanson Corp. of Kent has formed a new partnership to transfer the business operations of the company. The partnership includes owner and CEO Gerald D. Hermanson and a group of key management employees. The partnership will be led by Richard Hermanson and Kevin Almon. Gerald Hermanson will continue to play an active role in the business.
Michael Mason is the new Marvin window and door specialist at Gray Lumber Co. in Tacoma. Mason worked for many years at Marvin Window Co., a high-line architectural wood window producer. His new duties focus on custom, residential and commercial projects.
Tacoma-based Bob Pearson Construction has been selected as an "Authorized Builder" for American Buildings Co., one of the largest makers of metal building systems in the world. Pearson will represent American Buildings throughout Pierce County and the surrounding area. Pearson specializes in commercial and industrial design-build and select-bid projects.
