Schaufelberger
University of Washington professor John E. Schaufelberger won AACE International's Brian D. Dunfield Educational Service Award. The Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering International gives the award to honor educational achievements by members of the cost engineering professional community. Schaufelberger joined AACE in 1995. He chairs the UW's Department of Construction Management. Prior to joining the UW faculty in 1994, he served for 30 years as an officer in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Foster Pepper

Clark
Foster Pepper construction litigator Greg Clark won the 2009 President's Award from the Washington Defense Trial Lawyers for his efforts to improve WDTL's standing with the state Legislature. As chair of WDTL's Legislative Committee, Clark coordinated and often provided input to the Legislature. His legal practice focuses on construction, condominium and commercial litigation.

Merrill Carlson & Co.

Eldon R. Carlson and Brent Leland Mecham were designated Certified Construction Industry Financial Professionals by the Institute of Certified Construction Industry Financial Professionals. Carlson is a member/owner of Merrill Carlson & Co. and Mecham is a manager at the Renton-based firm. Both men had to pass a 4.5-hour exam covering accounting and reporting, income recognition, budgeting and planning, risk management, taxes, human resources, legal issues, information technology and joint ventures. Their certifications run until March 21, 2012.

The Papé Group

Papé
Christian Papé was named manager of corporate development and external affairs for The Papé Group in Eugene, Ore. Papé was a territory manager for four years at Papé Machinery in Mount Vernon, Wash., and before that worked in the parts and service departments at Papé Machinery in Portland and in the accounting and marketing departments of The Papé Group. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Oregon.

Hainline and Associates

Matusky
Burnell
Consultant Hainline and Associates named Stuart Burnell president and Heather Matusky vice president of finance. Burnell has been with the company since 1995 and has more than 25 years of experience in the construction industry. Matusky has been with the company since 2005, serving as business manager and director of finance. Seattle-based Hainline was founded in 1981 to serve owners, architects and contractors in all phases of the construction process.

Mayes Testing Engineers

Mayes Testing Engineers hired Heidi Flickinger, a graduate of the University of Washington, as marketing coordinator. Mayes is a full-service testing and inspection agency with offices in Seattle, Tacoma and Portland.

Skanska

Skanska awarded $3,000 academic scholarships to University of Washington students Scott McIntyre and Antonio Zuniga Sanchez. The scholarships, part of the Skanska Scholars program, are awarded annually to UW juniors who are pursuing construction management degrees. The students are also offered summer internships with Skanska. McIntyre, from Lake Tapps, is the chief public relations officer of Associated Students in Construction and was the chief estimator for the UW’s National Electrical Contractors Association Green Energy Challenge team. Sanchez, from Fresno, Calif., is an ASC board member and competed on the UW team at the Mechanical Contractors Association of America’s Student Chapter Competition.

ProBuild

ProBuild Holdings, a national building materials supplier to contractors, opened a facility in Kalispell, Mont. Brent L. Hall is the general manager. ProBuild operates more than 470 lumber and building product distribution, manufacturing and assembly centers in 42 states.
