The Master Builders Association of Pierce County awarded $500 scholarships to two Northwest college students. The Gordon Rockwell scholarship was awarded to Gary Howe Jr., a University of Washington sophomore studying engineering; and the Tom Fishburne scholarship was awarded to Daniel Shattuck, an Oregon State University sophomore studying electrical engineering. The students provided essays, letters of recommendation and transcripts to the MBA Education Committee. They were selected from more than 20 applicants.
Egis Real Estate Services promoted Steve Goetsch to journeyman operating engineer upon his completion of the Egis Journeyman Operating Engineer Training Program.
The Washington Association of Building Officials named Tom Phillips 2009 Building Official of the Year. Phillips, building official for the city of Kirkland, was recognized for his leadership in working with WABO members on development of the new Washington Cities Electrical Code, which is being considered for adoption by many cities. He also represents Washington cities as a member of the state Electrical Board
