The Washington State Department of Transportation won an America's Transportation Award at the annual meeting of the Western Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials. WSDOT won the regional award in the Innovative Management category for its Operation I-5 Partnership to Relieve Congestion project. Regional winners will compete for the national Grand Prize and People's Choice Award, which will be presented Oct. 16 at the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials' annual meeting in Detroit.
The Washington Association of Sewer and Water Districts recognized Douglas County Sewer District No. 1 for receiving the state Department of Ecology's Outstanding Wastewater Treatment Plant award for the fifth consecutive year. The award is given to wastewater treatment plants that comply with effluent limits, monitoring and reporting requirements, spill prevention planning, pretreatment and other regulatory activities. A recognition ceremony will be held Sept. 29 at the association's annual conference in Wenatchee.

Bellevue's Burke Electric added Edward “James” Long, Mark Undseth and Chris Sundesten. Long is working on the Snoqualmie Falls rehabilitation project. He has more than 45 years of experience in the electrical industry. Undseth is managing the company's data center, wind power and renewable energy projects. He started his career with Burke in 1975, and was previously working in California for another firm. Sundesten is the company's full-time safety officer. He is responsible for producing environmental and safety plans for specific projects. He is OSHA 510 and 512 certified and is finishing up his 500 certification.
Boise Cascade Engineered Wood Products was one of 10 national winners of 2011 “A,A” Partners of Choice awards for quality and service from David Weekley Homes. The Boise, Idaho-based company has won the award six years in a row. Houston-based Weekley Homes is the third largest privately owned homebuilder in the U.S.
Redmond's National Door received ProVantage Dealer Status from LiftMaster, a maker of residential and commercial garage door openers. National Door was cited for its customer service, product knowledge and business practices. It serves the residential and commercial garage door markets in King and Snohomish counties. Dan and Johnette Pevarnick are the owners.
