Turner Construction promoted Dan Gemme to vice president and general manager of its Seattle office while incumbent Jack Beaudoin was appointed vice president and general manager to lead expansion in the Vancouver, Canada, region. Gus Sestrap is taking over Gemme's old position of operations manager of the Seattle office. Gemme has nearly 25 years of industry experience, including field work, business development and office management. He joined Turner in 1987 in Pittsburgh, and was named vice president and operations manager in 2008 of its Portland office. He had been vice president and operations manager of the Seattle office since 2010. Beaudoin began at Turner in 1981 as a field engineer in Houston. He was named manager of the Seattle Special Projects Division in 1987 and promoted to vice president in 2000. He became general manager in 2005. Sestrap joined Turner in 1981 in Seattle.

Express Construction Co.

Henkel

Express Construction Co. hired Brett Henkel as a superintendent. Henkel has more than 22 years of industry experience. Bellevue-based Express builds tenant improvement/renovation, retail, hospitality, office, medical, banking and mixed-use/multifamily projects.

Schuchart Corp.

Seattle-based general contractor Schuchart Corp. hired Mike Martin as a project engineer and Jason Sturgeon as a project manager. Martin has more than 18 years of experience on local commercial projects, and is working on the Chihuly Garden and Glass project at the Seattle Center. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Ulster in Belfast, Ireland. Sturgeon has more than 15 years of experience in low-rise commercial, hospitality, multifamily and high-rise residential construction projects. He, too, is working on the Chihuly project. He holds a bachelor's degree in engineering technology from Purdue University.

GLY Construction

Bellevue's GLY Construction hired Tom Gass as senior project manager in the Healthcare Division, David Craig as senior estimator and Trevor Lunde as integrated design engineer on the Virtual Design team. Gass spent much of his career working in the medical sector for several general contractors. Craig was business development manager for eight years at Builder's Exchange of Washington. Lunde is an architect formerly with Integrus Architecture.

Mortenson Construction

Mortenson Construction received a national design-build award from the Design-Build Institute of America for the $30 million renovation of Cheney Stadium in Tacoma. The award was presented last month during the National Design-Build Conference and Expo in Orlando, Fla. The project team included Belay Architecture and Populous.

AGC Oregon-Columbia Chapter

The Associated General Contractors Oregon-Columbia Chapter on Saturday will hand out SIR awards to David Kronsteiner, CEO of West Coast Contractors; Dick Alexander, partner with Stoel Rives; David Evans, chairman emeritus with David Evans Enterprises; and Larry Hannan, retired president of Hannan-Mossman Construction. The awards have been given since 1972 to individuals in the construction industry who demonstrate skill, integrity and responsibility. The association will also be honoring the Lake Oswego interceptor sewer project, which was built by Advanced American Construction and James W. Fowler Co.
