The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Walla Walla District Contracting Division set records during fiscal year 2011 by executing 1,372 actions valued at $114.5 million, leading to two national awards for contracting excellence. Tracy Wickham, the district's construction and architectural-engineering contracting branch chief, earned the corps' 2011 Excellence in Contracting, Mission Execution Award. He obligated more than $60 million of the district's contracts. In addition, the Walla Walla District earned the corps' Head of Contracting Activity's Award for Excellence in Contracting — Best Small Business Office.
Hillsboro, Ore.-based Parr Lumber won Supplier of the Year from the Building Industry Association of Clark County. Parr sponsors BIA's Parade of Homes, its newsletter and website. Several Parr employees serve on BIA committees, events and the board of directors.

SafeWorks LLC hired Erik Elzinga as vice president of engineering at the Seattle headquarters. Elzinga has global responsibility for new product development of the company's powered hoists and work platforms. He previously worked for 15 years at Terex Aerial Work Platforms, which makes Genie-branded aerial lifts. He holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Florida.

Salem, Ore.-based K&E Excavating hired Rick Anderson for the newly created position of director of operations. Anderson is focusing on strategic planning, overseeing daily operations and maximizing efficiency of the business. He has more than 17 years of experience in operations management and holds an MBA from George Fox University. He also is an adjunct professor in the MBA program of Corban University. K&E is a family-owned business working in commercial excavation, civil construction and underground utilities. It operates in Oregon, Washington and California.
The coastal resort town of Seabrook won three 2011 Gold Nugget Awards at the Pacific Coast Builders Conference in San Francisco. Seabrook won Gold Nugget awards for “Community Site Plan over 20 Acres” and “Residential Project of the Year.” Its Ultimate Beach House took home a Merit Award in the category “Single Family Detached Home over 3,000 square feet on a conventional lot.”
