PCL Construction

Melnyk

Wayne Melnyk joined PCL Construction Services' Seattle District as vice president and district manager. Melnyk has been with the company for 37 years, previously as president and district manager for Nordic PCL Construction in Hawaii. Some of the projects he has worked on include The Staples Center, Ritz Carlton Kapalua, Denver International Airport and Hawaii Convention Center. He replaced Fred Auch, who retired after 32 years at PCL.

Swinerton Builders Washington

Swinerton Builders Washington hired Nick Vovakes as senior project manager. Vovakes is helping expand the Special Projects division in Bellevue by seeking work in the medical, interiors and high-tech markets. He previously spent 11 years working on construction projects in Northern California. He is a LEED Accredited Professional and holds a bachelor's degree in construction management from the University of California, Chico.

Lakeside Industries

Issaquah-based Lakeside Industries promoted Dax Woolston from controller to chief financial officer. Woolston has been with the asphalt paving company for 12 years. In his new role, he is overseeing financial operations for 12 regional offices in Washington, Oregon and Idaho.

Union Corner Construction

Vancouver-based Union Corner Construction won an environmental stewardship gold award from the Idaho Youth Education Recycling Partnership for its work on a $10.2 million construction and renovation project at Concordia University School of Law in Boise, Idaho. The partnership collects scrap metal and throw-away construction materials, then donates the profits to Idaho youth programs through the John William Jackson Fund. Union Corner's award will be presented tomorrow at a ceremony in Boise.

LA Structures Northwest

Polis

Bill Polis joined LA Structures Northwest as executive vice president of business development. Polis has more than 35 years of construction industry experience, most recently as director of business development at Sequoyah Electric. Maple Valley-based LA Structures Northwest specializes in pre-construction and installation of structural steel, metal stud, drywall and engineered wood.

American Society of Concrete Contractors

The American Society of Concrete Contractors elected Mike Poppoff, president and owner of Poppoff Inc., as first vice president for 2012-13. The Decorative Concrete Council, an ASCC specialty council, elected John Belarde of Woodinville and Clark Branum of Marysville as new members. Poppoff Inc. is based in Moxie, Yakima County. ASCC is a St. Louis-based nonprofit representing the concrete industry.

Potelco

Potelco CEO Gary Tucci was elected to the Western Washington Fair Association board of directors. Tucci joins 11 other board members in overseeing the growth and direction of the WWFA. Potelco is a Quanta Services company.

Mission Support Alliance

The Department of Energy awarded Voluntary Protection Program Star status to contractor Mission Support Alliance for its mission support services at the Hanford Site. The status is the highest safety honor a contractor can receive through the DOE program, recognizing excellence in employee safety and health programs.

WPC

Gig Harbor general contractor WPC named engineering firm AHBL its 2011 Subcontractor of the Year. AHBL was WPC's civil and structural engineer in 1991 on its first design-build project, and has partnered with WPC on more than 50 projects since.
