"We Were Soldiers" is a war movie at war with itself.
It's a film about Vietnam with the patriotism of a World War II propaganda flick; with its gung-ho ideology, it harkens to the days when war movies lacked the cynicism that came with "Apocalypse Now" and "Platoon," yet it's post-"Saving Private Ryan" in its graphic violence.
