Q. What happens to bodies lost or buried at sea? Are they eaten by the fishes?
A. Fish will accelerate a body's decomposition a hundred-fold, says Kenneth V. Iserson, M.D., in "Death to Dust." Fish and crabs go to work immediately, as do shrimp, notes one pathologist, which in the cold waters of San Francisco Bay will be found at all a body's orifices.
