Management by Design: How effective leaders gain respect of others

Prime Minister Winston Churchill was so effective during the 1940 London blitz because his speeches gave people hope and courage. He was seen walking the streets, talking to bombing victims and encouraging everyone he met. People came to believe that they could rely on him. The whole country became a team — all pulling in the same direction.

Most teams in the workplace perform well, too — until things go wrong. Maybe a deadline is missed, a hand-off forgotten or a request misfiled.
