I get nervous when someone tells me: “We go the extra mile.”
I start to wonder why the extra mile is necessary? What drives the need? Are these extra miles traveled regularly? And are you going the extra mile because you didn't get it right the first time? Is the effort getting you somewhere or is it more like walking against the flow on a people-mover at the airport: You have the illusion of going the extra mile, but from an outside observer's viewpoint you're standing still.
