Management by Design: Successful networkers focus on giving, not getting

When hurdlers line up for a 100-meter race, they cast their eyes to the finish line and create a mental picture of themselves breasting the tape ahead of the pack. Some will pace out the path to the first hurdle before the race starts, as they mentally prepare for the first jump.

I doubt many are thinking about the second hurdle before the race, because it can become an obstacle on the way to success. The second and subsequent hurdles will be taken in their stride, leapt over subconsciously, while the athletes remain consciously focused on the finish.
