Forget these cold, wet days and this gloomy economic climate for a bit, and think of Dubai. That's the city on the Persian Gulf that has done so much — until the economy took a dive — for international commerce and high-flying business-class tourism.
The city, shimmering in the sun on the other side of the globe, has grown exponentially during the last two decades. Its rapidly emerging skyline includes several of the world's tallest buildings. You can even ski year-round in Dubailand, a theme park with an indoor ski hill.
