The Senior Services Center faces the street with a modern attitude. Ground-face cement block brackets a unitized curtain wall and metal panel system, and metal sunscreens or light shelves control light levels in offices. Metal window boxes on the upper floors add scale and proportion.

It's still a little odd for seniors to move downtown and join the urban scene. But the new mixed use building on Second Avenue between Battery and Bell is not a typical retirement center. Decidedly modern, the low-rise takes its place among the best of Seattle's new generation.
