AIA Project of the Month: Capitol Hill Library: green inside and out

  • The library is perfectly symmetrical in plan -- a two-story brick box is split by the triangle formed by two inner walls.

    Tall windows break the solid walls of the library and serve as inviting lanterns after dark.

    Green is hard to come by along North Broadway. So when architects began to fit the complex program for the new Capitol Hill Library on a site just a block from the main thoroughfare, they tried hard to save space for a garden. There was none.
