Andrew Bergh: Court says patient's story didn't defame her doctor
Although it has a fancy-sounding name, alpha-fetoprotein screening is actually a simple blood test that discloses whether an unborn child is at risk for serious genetic defects like Down syndrome.
Given this upside, one might think AFP testing is routinely administered to all pregnant women. But as shown by a California case called Dieterich v. Fraker, that's not true at all.
