(Re: Jan. 28 DJC article about a house on West Highland Drive). For the benefit of your readers, I wish to address a unnecessary concern regarding asbestos associated with the demolition of the home at 222 W. Highland Drive last month. In a recent article in the Queen Anne News, Jeffrey Ochsner states "There were apparently no asbestos abatement steps taken before the house was razed."
Mr. Ochsner is incorrect. A professional environmental evaluation firm surveyed the residence for asbestos. An independent firm then carefully removed all building materials containing asbestos in the week prior to demolition. This was an essential part of the permit process and an appropriate precaution for public health.
