The busting last spring of a big construction site theft ring in four Columbia Basin towns should be a lesson to firms throughout the state of the need to step up their security measures, particularly of equipment in their fleets.
Construction sites are an easy target, as the thefts going back to January in Chelan, Leavenworth, Wenatchee, East Wenatchee and Rock Island illustrated. A law enforcement investigation led to hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of stolen property from multiple construction sites, including a truck, three trailers, heat pumps and lumber, flooring, siding and window packages.
