The $34 million West Salem High School, which opened in Salem, Ore., last fall, was designed with ecological sustainability in mind. Positioned on the highest elevation of a 43-acre site, the building follows the site's natural contours, with fields and tree-lined parking lots set on terraces down the hillside.
