A new Indian restaurant called Shanik has opened at 500 Terry Ave. N. in Seattle’s South Lake Union neighborhood.
The restaurant is related to Vij’s restaurant in Vancouver, B.C. It is owned by Chef Meeru Dhalwala, wife of Vij’s owner Vikram Vij, and Oguz Istif, chief operating officer of Vij’s Vancouver companies.
The architect’s website says the restaurant is designed to feel like a Himalayan hill-town retreat. Spaces unfold as if guests are arriving in town on a train. The entrance feels like the train platform, with the take-out counter like a train car.
The 72-seat dining room is designed to feel like a villa, and the 40-seat lounge is designed to resemble a garden terrace at night.
Restaurant owners: Meeru Dhalwala, Oguz Istif
Building owner: Amazon.com
Contractor: Wilcox Construction
Interior architect: Heliotrope Architects
