Surrey Downs Park has opened at 11177 S.E. Fourth St., just south of downtown Bellevue.
The new 10.5-acre park features a "Great Lawn" a large, grassy meadow surrounded by a pedestrian path, as well as a playground, basketball court, picnic shelters, a restroom and parking.
Berms and lookouts provide views of Mount Rainier and, in the future, the chance to watch Sound Transit Eastlink trains go by.
Construction cost was $4.5 million.
The site was home to Surrey Downs Elementary School from 1962 until it closed in 1981. The county purchased the property and used it as a courthouse until 2005. The space was then transferred to the city of Bellevue for a park.
Owner: City of Bellevue
Master planner: Berger Partnership
General contractor: KLB Construction
