Mary Gates Hall at the University of Washington was one of 11 winners of the Masonry Institute of Washington's annual Excellence in Masonry Design awards. The project, which houses the new Center for Undergraduate Studies, garnered an Honor Award, the association's top recognition. It was one of three projects to receive that honor.

The $30.5 million Mary Gates Hall project involved restoring an existing 1928 Gothic-style building and 1949 addition, plus building a new addition designed to match the original architecture. It took about nine months to get an exact match of the existing brick to make the new addition look seamless. Within its 185,000 square feet, the hall houses 35 general classrooms and break-out rooms, a 200-student computer lab and offices.
The project team for Mary Gates Hall included: Bassetti Architects of Seattle and Hartman Cox Architects of Washington, D.C. (associated architects), Hensons' Masonry (masonry contractor), Hensel Phelps (general contractor), KPFF (civil and structural engineer), CDi Mechanical Engineers, Sparling (electrical engineer), Nakano Dennis (landscape architect) and The Greenbusch Group (acoustics).
