Barbara “b.g.” Nabors-Glass has joined Capitol Hill Housing's board of directors, and Laura Miller and Josephine Wong are new on Capitol Hill Housing Foundation's board. Nabors-Glass is with Goodwill, where she leads services such as education and job training. She previously worked at Seattle Housing Authority. Miller is a partner and broker at Gibraltar, where she has represented local companies on leasing and sales. Wong is deputy director of King County's Department of Community and Human Services. Before that, she was chief operating officer for Capitol Hill Housing.
The topic of the January NAIOP meeting is “Risks & Collaborations: A Discussion on the Future of Seattle” with the 2015 UW Runstad Fellows sharing what they learned about affordable housing, public spaces and social cohesion in three South American cities: Rio de Janeiro, Santiago and Curitiba. NAIOP said the event will examine how public and private investment can help make cities in this region healthy, affordable and livable. The event begins at 7 a.m. Jan. 20 at Four Seasons Seattle. Presenters are Joe Ferguson, principal at Lake Union Partners; Maiko Winkler-Chin, executive director of Seattle Chinatown-International District PDA; Kate Simonen and Thaisa Way of University of Washington; and two graduates from the UW Runstad Center for Real Estate Studies: Yeon Soo Lee and Andrew Hunt. Kite Realty Group Trust of Indianapolis said it sold shopping centers in Maple Valley and Cornelius, Oregon, for a combined $45 million. The Maple Valley property is a 119,580-square-foot shopping center called Four Corner Square. Lead tenants are Grocery Outlet and Walgreens. Cornelius Gateway is a 21,325-square-foot shopping center with lead tenants FedEx Kinkos and Anytime Fitness. Kite Realty said it has interests in 124 properties totaling 25 million square feet in 22 states.
Union Bank said Managing Director Kelly Wu has been named asset-based lending origination manager for California, Washington and Oregon. He is based in Los Angeles. Wu has more than 20 years of financial industry experience and was commercial banking regional manager at Union Bank after working in lending and as a CPA in California.
Russell Investments has expanded the implementation services team with two new portfolio manager roles in Sydney and Tokyo. Jared Bennett works in Sydney and comes from Colonial First State Global Asset Management. Oyunjargal Khuyagdorj works in Tokyo as a senior portfolio analyst, and was previously with Nomura Securities. John Venardos now serves as director, Implementation Services-Australasia, and Hajime Takigawa is senior portfolio manager in Japan.

In its Seattle office, CallisonRTKL named Paul Makowicki, Matt Billerbeck, Mike Riggs, Alex Shapleigh, Ro Shroff and Ron Singler senior vice presidents, and Darryl Custer vice president. Makowicki will be office director in Seattle, working to elevate the profile of the office and leading initiatives on aviation and light rail. He has over three decades of experience with retail and mixed-use projects. Billerbeck will lead the shopping and entertainment team for the commercial practice group. He will do business development and provide design guidance for commercial projects. He has over 20 years of experience in retail and mixed-use. Riggs will be the regional practice group leader of North America for the retail group and lead programs for stores globally. He over 24 years of experience in retail strategy and environment design. Shapleigh will head the specialty retail team for the retail stores practice group. He has 20 years of experience, including REI stores. Shroff will lead tall buildings initiatives. He has over 30 years of experience, including mixed-use and tall buildings, and will help the firm expand in new markets. Singler will lead the retail stores: Nordstrom team. He was a design principal for the Nordstrom studio and has over 30 years of experience in design and brand strategy. Custer will be emerging region practice group leader for South Asia in the commercial practice group. He has over 25 years of retail design and project management experience. CallisonRTKL has over 2,000 employees.




Bruce Gustafson is retiring from Tacoma-based Enginuity Systems, and Jamie Vinyard and Francis Masotto have joined co-founder Jesse Barksdale in ownership and new management roles. Vinyard is now majority owner and was promoted to chief operating officer. Masotto was promoted to associate principal and will continue as a project manager. Steve Baldridge was hired as a project engineer. He was with PSF Mechanical. In 2008 Gustafson and Barksdale founded Enginuity, which provides mechanical engineering for buildings. Gustafson has been an engineer for nearly four decades, mostly focusing on mechanical/HVAC and plumbing design.

In Seattle, BCRA hired Amy Burke as a project designer. Burke has nine years of experience in architecture and interior design. She was with GGLO, working on projects that included AVA Apartments University District in Seattle. BCRA is an 80-person architecture and engineering firm, with an office also in Tacoma.


In Seattle, Sazan Group hired C. Erik Larson as a senior project manager and Heather Warner as a project administrative specialist. Larson is a mechanical and fire protection engineer with over 27 years of experience on military, industrial, commercial and institutional facilities. Warner has 20 years of administrative experience supporting engineering firms. Sazan provides mechanical, electrical, and fire protection engineering, information technology systems consulting, MEP commissioning, and owner representation services, with an office also in Portland.

Stantec said Denise B. Fong, a principal and lighting discipline lead, is among the first people in the world to be a Certified Lighting Designer in architectural lighting design. Stantec provides consulting in planning, engineering, architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, surveying, environmental sciences, project management and project economics.
In Redmond, GeoEngineers hired Yanbei Zhang as a staff geotechnical engineer, Kellen Botten as a field technician and Jessica Firsow as a senior database administrator in the IT department. In Seattle, it hired Allison Northrop as a marketing coordinator and Matt Herzel as a writer/producer, Carl Longton and Michelle Deng as staff geotechnical engineers and Chad Stickel as the CAD group leader. In Tacoma, the firm hired Haunani Mara as a CAD technician. GeoEngineers is an earth science, engineering and technology consulting firm headquartered in Seattle, with offices in Redmond, Tacoma and Bellingham, as well as Oregon, Idaho, California, Utah, Missouri and Louisiana.



Oles Morrison Rinker & Baker said attorneys Shaun C. Kennedy, Michael J. Schmidt and Sean P. Dowell recently joined the Seattle office. Kennedy joins the Government Contracts, Construction and Commercial Litigation teams. Schmidt's practice focuses on government and commercial contracts, insurance and litigation, and he worked for a multinational defense contractor. Dowell is a LEED Accredited Professional in Building Design and Construction and a recent graduate of Seattle University School of Law. He worked as a construction project manager.
Mutual Materials, a manufacturer of masonry and hardscape products, won a 2015 Family Business Award from Seattle Business magazine. Mutual Materials was a Silver winner in the large company category. The award was accepted by President Kendall Anderegg. Mutual Materials was founded in 1900 by Daniel Houlahan following the Great Seattle Fire of 1889, and is owned and operated by the fifth generation of the family. It employs 440 people, with 10 manufacturing facilities and 16 retail branches in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and British Columbia.
