Seattle Chocolate

Seattle Chocolate Company has named David Grossman as chief financial officer. Before joining the company, Grossman served as an audit and consulting partner with Seattle-based international accounting firm BDO Seidman. He also held the position of principal in the Arthur Young accounting firm.

Port of Longview

The Port of Longview has appointed George Cress as its new director of planning and development. Cress is expected to play a key role in the facility's plans to acquire and develop 130 acres of property adjacent to the port. Previously, Cress worked for Columbia County, Ore. as an economic development director. Prior to that, he held similar positions in Lake Tahoe, Nev., and with the Umatilla Tribe in Pendleton, Ore.

Potter & Associates

Seattle printer Potter & Associates has hired Caron Monks as an outside sales representative. Monks has ten years of experience in communication and marketing in the Seattle area. Most recently, she was account executive for a pre-press and design shop.

World Trade Club

Seattle World Trade Club, a non profit membership association providing a forum for the international business community, has selected Eddie Bauer Inc. as 1995 Trader of the Year. Redmond-based Eddie Bauer, a subsidiary of Spiegel Inc., and a catalog and retail company offering private-label clothing, accessories, and home furnishings, has more than doubled its worldwide annual sales in the past five years, from less than $500 million in sales in 1989 to over $1 billion in 1994. In 1994, the company added 59 stores in the U.S. and Canada, and opened three stores in Tokyo. The company also launched mail order catalogs in Germany and Japan.

PACCAR Inc.

Ron Morton has been promoted to senior vice president of PACCAR Inc. and will be responsible for the company's domestic and international finance companies including PACCAR Leasing Corporation. Morton will also continue as president of PACCAR Financial Corporation (PFC). Morton joined the company in 1988 as president of PFC. Prior to that he served as president of the Equipment Finance Group of Heller Financial Inc. and held several senior financial positions with Chase/Clark Credit Company. Supermall of the Great Northwest Supermall of the Great Northwest, a new mall located midway between Seattle and Tacoma which is scheduled to open on August 25, has hired Diane Bien as advertising sales manager. Bien's background includes work as an account executive with K106 Radio, and extensive sales and advertising experience with Northwest Cable Advertising and Pacific Communications (PACCOM), where she was the 1989 Employee of the Year.

StatSci

MathSoft's StatSci division, in charge of marketing and supporting S-PLUS, a version of AT&T "S" interactive data analysis and object-oriented programming language, has hired Patrick Rooney as director of marketing. Rooney was previously director of database marketing for The Walter Karl Companies, a direct marketing computer service bureau and list brokerage firm. Prior to that, he was vice president of marketing at statistical software company Statistical Innovations, and was a senior consultant with David Shepard Associates.

Satsop Power Plant

From June 17 through August 27, the Satsop power plant site in Grays Harbour County will offer tours on Fridays at 10 a.m., and on Saturdays at 10 a.m., and 12:30 p.m. Weekday tours will be restricted to groups of five or more with reservations. The 90-minute tour route includes major features of the 76 percent complete nuclear power plant and involve extensive stair climbing. R.W. Beck

Ken Harlow was recently appointed as Director of Client Services for Consulting in the Seattle office of R.W. Beck. He will also oversee client service in the Anchorage and Portland offices of the firm. Harlow joined the firm in 1991, and has a broad-based background in management consulting, including organizational studies, management audits, strategic planning and rate and financial analysis. His responsibilities will include establishing strategic direction in the office and leading business development efforts.

Hong West

Ralph N. Boirum has joined Hong West & Associates, Inc. as vice president and principal geotechnical engineer. He has over 21 years of experience in residential, commercial transportation and industrial facilities. He has taught soil mechanics and foundation engineering at Seattle University for 13 years, and recently managed studies for the design and construction of the new U.S. Embassy complex in Bogota, Colombia.

Art Anderson

Jeff Kelton has joined Art Anderson Associates as a senior naval architect. He will provide design and specifications for high-speed, low-wash passenger ferries and vessel analyses for marine transportation studies. He was previously with the Groiki Shipyard Company in Ise Japan, where he was responsible for 20 vessel designs ranging from catamarans and ferries to sport and workboats.

CNA

William C. Lee has joined CNA Architecture Group, Inc. as a medical planner. He was previously employed as an architect with Heery International and earlier as a corporate architect with Group Health of Puget Sound. Lee served as project architect for the 150,000-square-foot, $17 million replacement facility for Group Health Cooperative Olympic Medical Center.

BC&S

Alfred H. Killip has joined Bouillon Christofferson & Schairer as mechanical engineer. He has 35 years of experience in mechanical systems design, and is currently at work on mechanical systems for Swedish Medical Center and Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.

Landau

Henry Landau, president of Landau Associates, a Washington environmental and geotechnical engineering consulting firm, received the 1994 civil engineering achievement award form the faculty of the School of Civil Engineering at Purdue University. Landau was one of seven graduates to receive the award for 1994.

FFA

Tracey Simpson has joined Fletcher Farr Ayotte Architects as director of interior design. Her current project include a clinic for Woodland Park Hospital, Multnomah County Library and several hospitality projects.

JKS

JKS Architects of Portland has added several new members to the staff. Jeffrey Till was previously with Aston Periera & Associates of San Francisco, and most recently spent three years working in Thailand and The Netherlands. He is currently working on JKS' new office space in the Commonwealth Building. Gretchen Hibler is working on a variety of medical projects for the healthcare studio. She was previously with GBD Architects, also of Portland. John Feit, a graduate of the University of Virginia, comes to JKS from Industrial Design Corporation of Portland, where he worked on hi-tech facilities. He is currently at work on U.S. Postal Service and Oregon National Guard projects. Stephanie Johnson, a graduate of the university of Oregon, has joined the retail studio, and is currently at work on the Hawthorne Fred Meyer retail center. Jason Erdahl is a graduate of the University of Idaho. He is assisting with multiple projects for the U.S. Postal Service.

Tsang

The Tsang Partnership has brought two interns into the office. Scott Shaw, who spent one year with Erickson McGovern after graduating from Washington State University, is now at work on the Western State Hospital project. Brian Urban, another former Erickson McGovern employee, received his degree from University of Southern California. He is at work on the Central Washington University Science Facility.

CBGKL

CBGKL, a mechanical and electrical consulting engineering firm in Portland, has hired Ray Herndon as project manager. He recently relocated form Bremerton, where he was involved in the expansion to the Hollister-Stier Pharmaceutical Lab, the Spokane Boeing Fabrication plant and the Northwest Indian Interpretive Center.

Turnkey

Cheryl Owens has been named director of design services at Turnkey Business Interiors, a contract furnishings dealer. Jim Ankrum will handle new business development efforts. He holds a master's degree in economics from Johns Hopkins University.

Notkin

Notkin Engineering, Inc. has several new projects in the office, including the Bristol-Myers Squibb Barrier Vivarium Laboratory expansion, Washington State Public Health laboratory improvements, the Starbucks headquarters expansion, the Sacred Heart Medical Center emergency room expansion, the Federal Bank Reserve renovation, the Electrical Engineering Commuter Science and Engineering Building at the University of Washington, ventilation improvements at the University of Washington Medical Center and the Base Area Expansion project at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.

Portage Bay Guidelines

Origamic Architecture

Masahiro Chatani is the originator of "Origamic Architecture" and the acknowledged Japanese master of the art form. An exhibition of Chatani's miniature architectural masterpieces will be on display from June 26 to July 6 at the NBBJ Gallery.

The anatomy of a street

The Seattle Design Commission is now featuring an exhibit entitled "The Anatomy of a Street" in the Land Use Lobby, Suite 200 of the Dexter Horton Building, 710 2nd Avenue. It includes display boards on Broadway, The Sensory Street; Second Avenue, Inviting Pedestrian Friendliness; Alki/Harbor/Duwamish Corridor, Connecting Communities; and Pine Street, A Work in Progress. The exhibit ends on August 3rd.

Building Code update
