Randall Becker has joined Financial Security Group, a Bellevue-based financial advisory firm. Prior to joining Financial Security Group, Becker was a financial and estate planner for eight years, focusing on families with estate preservation needs. In addition to working with family financial planning issues, Becker will develop the firm's expanding usage of technological innovations in financial planning, including Internet communications.
The Seattle-based advertising, design and marketing firm imagio has hired Sarah Makar as director of client services and Nellie Sanger as production manager. Makar comes to imagio from Wunderman Cato Johnson in Newport Beach, Calif., where she managed the on-site marketing programs for Taco Bell including strategic planning, budget forecasting and creative development. Prior to that, she was with Janzen & Associates in Seattle. Sanger has spent time studying abroad, fine-tuning both her language skills and fine-arts technique.
Citizens from around the Puget Sound region will celebrate Citizens Lobby Day on Jan. 25 in Olympia. The event features messages from legislators, an update on current legislation, a lobbying skills workshop and visits with individual legislators. The goal of the 5th Annual Lobby Day is to deliver a strong, clear message to elected officials that it is their job to protect the health of our environment, economy and communities. Seattle public accounting firm Clothier & Head has added four people and promoted one member of its staff. Recently hired were: William F. Super as senior manager; Kathleen T. Aken, supervisory senior; Patty G. Smith, senior accountant; and Cherry C. Yueh, staff accountant. Jeff Wiley has been promoted to manager of the firm's management information systems department.
Mary Ann Jackson, director of operations for Pierce Transit, has been named chairperson of the American Public Transit Association's Women in Transit Committee for 1995-97. The group works to foster diversity and leadership opportunities for women in the public transportation industry. Jackson has nearly 18 years of experience in public transit. She joined Pierce Transit in 1978 as a temporary project supervisor and became its first woman director of operations in 1989. In this position, she oversees the agency's 450-square-mile fixed route bus service and supervises more than 350 transit operators. Under Jackson's leadership, the agency has increased the diversity of its workforce. Today, nearly 40 percent of Pierce Transit's operators are women, compared to the industry norm of 10 to 20 percent.
Bruegger's Bagel Bakeries, which now has 10 locations throughout the Puget Sound and plans to expand by five more stores by April 1996 and an additional 50 stores in the next three to five years, has added one person and promoted two members of its staff to prepare for growth. Susan Scotti has joined the company as director of operations. Scotti's background includes 13 years at Capital Pizza Huts Inc., where she earned several awards including Manager of the Year in 1987 and District Manager of the Year in 1994. April Whitney has been promoted to marketing director. Previously, Whitney managed four Bruegger's Bagels locations in the Minneapolis area. Andy Chaplin has been promoted to district manager. Chaplin came from Godfathers Pizza, where she spent four years as general manager, in addition to serving on the company's Management Advisory Council.
Qpoint International announced the addition of David Howard to its corporate staff as director of training and education. Howard will be responsible for Qpoint University, where he will train employees from all Qpoint franchise locations. He will also coordinate publishing of the company newsletter, the QReview. Howard has more than 10 years experience in the mortgage business.
Kurt Sorensen, associate broker at Kidder, Mathews & Segner, Inc., has been awarded the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR) designation. The designation is awarded to professionals who have a minimum of seven years industrial or office real estate experience, have maintained a very high level of transaction and sales volume, and successfully completed specified courses and exams. Only 28 commercial real estate agents in the state hold the SIOR designation.
Tom Schafer, associated broker at Kidder, Mathews & Segner, Inc., has received a Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) award from the Commercial Investment Real Estate Institute. CCIM's are awarded to professional who have completed 240 hours of graduate-level courses in financial analysis, commercial brokerage, market analysis, tax planning, managing and marketing troubled assets, decision analysis and negotiation and who have fulfilled professional experience requirements.
City University now offers Realtors-developed classes to business majors seeking a bachelors degree. Up to 45 credits of Realtor education classes and experience may be awarded toward the 180-credit bachelor's degree program. These are the same classes that the Washington Association of Realtors Education Department offers to practicing real estate professionals to meet the state's 30-hour continuing education license renewal requirement. City University will award up to three college credits for Realtor classes comprised of 30 classroom hours. Judy Cook, Cathy Boorman, and Mary Ann Arnold have joined Windermere Real Estate's Kirkland office as associates. Cook, associate broker, has 10 years of real estate experience, working with Prudential Preferred Properties and Coldwell Banker. Boorman joins Windermere as a sales associate, with nine years of real estate experience, most recently with Prudential Preferred Properties. Arnold, sales associate, has been in the industry for nine years, and has also worked with Prudential Preferred Properties. Joan and Darrel Whittaker have been named to the ownership of Windermere Real Estate's Northeast office in Kirkland. Joan will be handling the day-to-day sales and office management while Darrell will focus on business support and development. Windermere Real Estate's Northwest and Oak Harbor offices recently relocated to two new custom-designed buildings. The Northwest office, located at 125th and Greenwood in North Seattle's Broadview neighborhood, now occupies most of the first floor of a three-story, mixed-use building. The office currently has 35 sales associates with the ability to expand to 42. The Oak Harbor office on Whidbey Island, will be the anchor tenant of the new 10,000 square foot Windermere Building. Christopher Holden has joined the Federal Way office as a sales associate. Holden has been practicing real estate for one year with All-American Homes and Century 21. Kimberly Stohr and Dalton Wong have joined the Bellevue Commons office and Jennifer Raby will begin her real estate career with the Redmond office as a sales associate.
Real Estate Association of Puget Sound (REAPS) will present their local investor program for the month of January. Michael McQuaid, a real estate broker for over 15 years, will discuss investing in income property. He will review the risk levels associated with specific types of properties for the average investor. Seattle Mariner announcer Dave Niehaus will be the speaker for the monthly meeting of the Builders Owners & Managers Association (BOMA) of Seattle and King County.
