Swift named new GM for Smith Tractor

TACOMA -- Gary Swift is the new general rental and used equipment manager for Smith Tractor & Equipment Co. where he oversees rental and used equipment sales for all seven Washington stores. He is located at the company's Tacoma headquarters. Swift joined Smith Tractor in 1993 as a full-line salesman and was promoted to Kent sales manager in 1994. He has over 28 years of experience in the heavy equipment industry. Terry Purdy, who as general sales manager oversaw Smith Tractor's used equipment and rental efforts, has moved to the Kent store where he is sales manager. Smith Tractor & Equipment Co., founded in 1955, sells and rents machinery and attachments, provides parts and services machinery for the construction, forestry, asphalt and utility industries. Product lines include John Deere, Dynapac, Rosco, Melroe Bobcat, Sakai, Trail King, Teledyne and Kundel. In addition to Tacoma and Kent, the company has stores in Mount Vernon, Montesano, Wenatchee, Yakima, Chehalis and Anchorage, Alaska.

Lessard joins Triad Machinery

SEATTLE -- Steve Lessard has joined Triad Machinery Co.'s Seattle branch as sales representative where he will serve both logging and construction customers in north King, south Snohomish and Kittitas counties. Lessard has worked in the construction industry for over 23 years. Triad Machinery is the authorized dealer for Link-Belt, Volvo, JCB, LaBounty and Peterson Pacific equipment, serving the logging, construction and recycling industries in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and southeast Alaska.

Langolf named operations manager for Triad Machine

PORTLAND -- John Langolf, longtime fixture in the construction industry in the Seattle area, is the new operations manager for Triad Machinery Co. in Portland where he will oversee operational decisions at Triad's four branches in Oregon and Washington.

Pacific North Equipment wins distributer award

KENT -- Pacific North Equipment Co. was presented with the "Parts Pro Distributor Excellence Award" by Komatsu America International Co., manufacturer of heavy equipment for the construction, mining and forest products industries. This is the third year in a row that Pacific North has won the award in competition with Komatsu distributors throughout the nation. The award is based on the distributor's performance in meeting sales goals, product support staff training, employee test results, parts availability, order efficiency and participation in customer training seminars. Pacific North Equipment Co. sells, leases and services heavy equipment for the Pacific Northwest and Alaska and serves the construction, mining and forest products industries. Major product lines include Komatsu, Dresser, Timberjack, Haulpak, Galion, Champion, Terex, PPM-P&H, Esco and Detroit Diesel-allison. Pacific North, headquartered in Kent, has branches in Chehalis, Yakima, Portland, Eugene, Fairbanks, Anchorage, Ketchikan and Magadan, Alaska.

Seattle Solid Waste Utility

Vernon Connally has been named Field Operations Director for the Seattle Solid Waste Utility. He will oversee the City's two Recycling and Disposal Stations, the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program, and the monitoring of old landfill sites.

Toll Free Cellular

David A. Marques has been named director of carrier relations for Toll Free Cellular, a locally-based company responsible for launching the nation's first toll and airtime-free service for cellular telephone users. As director, Marques will be instrumental in developing and managing relationships with cellular carriers and other wireless service providers nationwide.

WHaM Communications

Michelle Klingman has joined Seattle-based WHaM Communications as an account coordinator. She will be conducting media relations, consumer product marketing, special event coordination and sponsorship development for clients Cascade Clear, Beaverton Foods, Stockpot Soups, Partners Crackers, Big Head Coffee Cola, Liberty Orchards and Sweet Charlottes. Previously Klingman worked for Austin Kelley Advertising in Atlanta as an account coordinator.

Piranha Productions, Inc.

Piranha Productions, Inc., a full-service post-production and editing studio, has expanded its capabilities to include QuickTime VR. QuickTime VR is Apple Computer's newest virtual reality product allowing users to control 3-D images of objects of their personal computers. With QuickTime VR, Piranha can use either photographs or computer-rendered images to create a movie.

Elgin DDB and Elgin Syferd Public Relations

Five new staff members have joined Elgin DDB and Elgin Syferd Public Relations. Joining Elgin DDB's creative department are Greg Brown as art director and Chris Halas as a copywriter. Steve Sommers has been hired as an assistant planner and buyer in Elgin DDB's media department. Three promotions have also been announced within Elgin DDB. Leann Ebe is now vice president/account supervisor, Jerry Grant was promoted to vice president/director of broadcast production, and Suzanne Dwyer is now a media planner and buyer. Elgin Syferd Public Relations (ESPR) has added two new staff positions in its Emerging Technologies Group to help manage the agency's rapidly increasing high-tech client base. Laura Bridenback has been hired as a senior account executive and Rick Keller joins ESPR as an administrative assistant.

Columbia Resource Group

Columbia Resource Group (CRG), a Seattle-based national and international event and destination management company, has merged with their competitor Presitige Events. The companies will operate as one under the name Columbia Resource Group (CRG). The merger makes CRG one of the largest event and destination management companies in region. Five Prestige employees, including its president, Catherine Springman, will join CRG at its Seattle head quarters.

Y Design

Yonezawa Design has changed its name to Y Design. The firm is still located at 1109 First Avenue, Suite 212, Seattle.
