Vanessa Sawyer has joined Walker and Associates as photogrammetry supervisor. She will be supervising Walker's night shift stereo compilers, tracking work and performing QA/QC model checks. Current project responsibilities include overseeing the Hanford DOE stereo compilation, updating Nooksack River maps for Whatcom County and assisting with the Puyallup River project for the Pierce County Department of Public Works.
Michael McDowell, CCE, credit manager, Alaskan Copper & Brass Company, has been elected chairman of the board of the National Association of Credit Management, Western Washington-Alaska. Chairman-elect is Anna Bope, CCE, credit manager, H.D. Fowler Co., Inc. Staff officers elected were Donald Conklin, president; Walter Jensen, vice president and secretary; Karen Parks, vice president; and Claude Harmon, treasurer.
Marcia J. Bystrom, board chair of the Northwest Area Foundation, announced the appointment of Karl Stauber as president of the Foundation, effective June 17. Stauber, currently Under Secretary for Research, Education, and Economics with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and a former vice-president-program of the Northwest Area Foundation, will be the foundation's fourth executive officer since its creation in 1934. He succeeds Terry Saario, who served as president from December 1984 through February 1996.
Randall Stearnes has been appointed Community Relations Specialist for Tacoma Public Utilities. Stearnes will work with school programs, community outreach projects and media relations.
Firstlight Productions, Inc. will display two of its latest educational CD-ROM titles at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). Sparky's Spelling with Phonics for ages 3-6 and Word Quest for ages 7-adult will be up and running at the HomePC booth May 16 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Released for the Windows platform, both titles will be available in retail stores by the end of May.
Dain Bosworth has moved its Bremerton office to the newly built Waterfront Park building in nearby Silverdale. The new office is located at 3212 N.W. Byron St. The investment banking and brokerage firm's local office, which opened in 1986, had been located at 4040 Wheaton Way.
Wizards of the Coast announced the Japanese launch of its card game Magic The Gathering was a success. Within days of arriving in Japanese stores last month, the game manufacturer had to place new orders for the translated cards. According to Peter Okada, Japan manager at Wizards of the Coast, the first two shipments of Japanese Magic sold out in less than two weeks. The Japanese version is the sixth translation of Magic. The card game is also translated in French, Spanish, German, Portuguese and Italian. Late in 1996, Wizards of the Coast will release a Chinese and Korean version.
Mark A. Morro, chairman of the board, chief executive officer and president of Air 21, announced that Air 21 will start low fare jet service from Seattle to Eugene, Redmond/Bend, San Francisco and Palm Springs. Beginning June 17, Air 21 will inaugurate service from Seattle to Eugene. On June 18, the airline will begin service from Eugene to Seattle with continuing service to Redmond/Bend , San Francisco and Palm Springs.
