Pacific Institute

The Pacific Institute (TPI) announced the appointment of Lisa Mandel as project director. Mandel will represent the international business organization to accounts throughout its international network, with an emphasis on the Northwest. TPI programs teach how to turn potential into progress.

Sleeping Lady

Sleeping Lady, a Leavenworth resort and conference retreat, announced Alexandra Glant has been appointed national sales director. Glant heads Sleeping Lady's Seattle office. Her responsibilities include directing group sales, promoting Sleeping Lady to the national market and working with the marketing team to develop Sleeping Lady packages.

American Marketing Assoc.

James A. Hutchins, senior vice president and account supervisor at Parallel Communications, has been elected to serve as the 1996-97 marketing chairman for the Puget Sound Chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA). Hutchins will be responsible for directing overall marketing efforts, including: promoting new member programs, developing career and continuing education seminars, overseeing chapter and member relations.

Horton Lantz Marocco

Greg Hunt has joined the marketing and creative services firm, Horton Lantz Marocco, as a senior designer. Hunt's experience includes creative director and design positions with in-house corporate marketing departments, independent design firms and advertising agencies in Seattle and Salt Lake City.

MWW/Savitt

MWW/Savitt announced the addition of Qpoint International to its client base. Headquartered in Bellevue, Qpoint International is a franchise system of home mortgage brokerage offices.

Cucina!Cucina!, Inc.

Terry LaBrue has been named director of marketing for Cucina!Cucina!, Inc., the Bellevue-based restaurant group of casual and fast-service Italian cafes. Previously, LaBrue was director of marketing communications for Consolidated Restaurants, Inc. and managing partner of Fisher Brady & LaBrue Advertising and Public Relations.

AD GUY Creative Services

Greg Nelson, previously an art director at McCann-Erickson Seattle, has founded a new Seattle advertising agency, AD GUY Creative Services. Nelson developed the company on the virtual agency concept, meaning a core group of professionals who are brought in on particular projects suited to their expertise. Before starting AD GUY Creative Services, Nelson worked on accounts such as Powerade, The Washington State Lottery, Washington Mutual Savings Bank and The Washington Apple Commission.

Port of Olympia

Kari Qvigstad, an experienced marketer of international trade and logistics business activities, is now the Port of Olympia's director of marketing and trade development. She will focus not only on diversifying the port's marine terminal activities, but also marketing the port's industrial park, aviation, recreational marine and commercial real estate segments of business. Qvigstad has had extensive experience as vice president and sales manager of Kamigumi U.S.A. Inc., a Japanese freight forwarding company in Seattle; manager of marketing and sales for Tacoma Cold Storage, LP in Tacoma, and operating her own international business consulting company in Olympia.

100 years of Japan-NW trade

Seattle business and community leaders in August will mark the 100th anniversary of the arrival of the NYK Line steamship Miike Maru and its cargo of silk, an event that launched trade between Japan and the Pacific Northwest and established Seattle as a key Pacific Rim gateway. Events commemorating the historic voyage from Kobe to Seattle are being planned by TransPacific Trade 100 Team, which includes NYK Line (North America) Inc., Port of Seattle, Stevedoring Services of America, Burlington Northern Santa Fe, the city of Seattle and Japan-America Society of Washington.

The Siefkes Group

The Siefkes Group, a Seattle area business-to-business public relations firm, recently hired Brad Chatfield as account executive to help handle the agency's growing client base. For the last year and a half Chatfield worked at the Pierce County Herald in Puyallup.

Safeco

Patricia Sampson, assistant vice president of Safeco Credit Company and manager of its Safeline Division, was promoted to division vice president. Richard Kurz, credit manager for the Safeline Division, was named division assistant vice president.

Cole & Weber

Seattle-based Cole & Weber has captured the national ad business for K2 Skis and Turner Classic Movies. The account wins represent an estimated $3 million in new annualized billing for the company.

Tully's Coffee

Tully's Coffee will open its 16th location this June at the corner of First Avenue and Royal Brougham near the Kingdome. This location will not only feature Tully's Coffee but also quick fuel up for car, driver and wallet with a combination BP, Washington Mutual and Taco Bell site. With a touch of a button, the customer will be able to order up a coffee drink -- along with a tankful of unleaded gas or a bean burrito. The partnership between these companies was formed when a BP franchisee approached Tully's, Washington Mutual and Taco Bell about vacant space. In the meeting that followed, it was decided that in addition to sharing space, the businesses would collaborate to offer a unique convenience to their customers. The location will have 2,200-square feet of building space, of which 350-square-feet will be occupied by Tully's.

Suburban Cities Association

The Suburban Cities of King County announced it has selected its officers and board of directors for 1996-97. The officers are: Erselle Eade, mayor of Hunts Point, president; Mary Gates, councilmemeber from Federal Way, vice-president; and Charles A. Booth, mayor of Auburn, secretary-treasurer. These officers assumed their duties in January of 1996 when Mayor Earl Clymer of Renton left office. The current term will run until June 1, 1997.
