MWW/Savitt

MWW/Savitt, the West Coast office of MWW/Strategic Communications, Inc., announced that Michelle Kleinke has been promoted to office manager. Kleinke formerly served as executive assistant to Kathy Savitt, president of MWW/Savitt.

NYLCare Health Plans

Jeff Robertson, MD, has been appointed medical director for NYLCare Health Plans Northwest, Inc. Prior to joining NYLCare, Robertson served as the medical director of Qual Med Health Plan. Before that, he practiced medicine between 1985 and 1994, with six of those years of practice in the Puget Sound area.

NW Development Officers Assoc.

President of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Barry McConnell, was elected president of the Northwest Development Officers Association (NDOA) at its annual spring conference. NDOA is a professional association dedicated to promoting philanthropy and providing training and support for those in development for Northwest non-profit organizations. McConnell heads a slate of seven new officers. Other officers include Marcia McGreevy, vice president for membership; Susan Howlett, vice president for program; Michele Hasson, vice president for training; Mary Ann Ranta, secretary; Jan Labyak, treasurer and Jacquelyn Ostrom, president elect.

Odyssey

Odyssey, The Maritime Discovery Center, is the official name of Seattle's new maritime center to open in March 1997 at the Bell Street Pier. Formerly called Odyssey Contemporary Maritime Museum, the new name better reflects the nature of the 30,000-square-foot waterfront facility. The center, currently under construction at Pier 66, will include over 50 exhibits. Three main galleries explore the themes of ocean trade, harvesting the sea, and the many uses of Puget Sound and its marine environment. As the only center of its kind in the region, it will serve as an educational resource center and destination for both visitors and residents of the Pacific Northwest. The center expects to attract over 400,000 people a year.

Blue Star (North America) Ltd.

Paul L. Bessinger has been named director of North American systems for Blue Star Line (BSL) in New York. Bessinger directs all activities related to management of the line's communication systems, which link BSL electronically with customers, employees and transportation partners.

Cucina!Cucina!, Inc.

Bryan McGuire has been named the new controller for Cucina!Cucina! Inc., the Bellevue-based restaurant group of casual and fast-service Italian restaurants. McGuire's responsibilities include all financial reporting, implementation of the accounting policy and procedures including cash planning and forecasting as well as tax compliance.

Kent small business award

Sumi Martinez, owner/operator of the Days Inn South Seattle, was presented with the "Small Business of the Year Award for 1996" by the Kent Chamber of Commerce. In 1991, without any previous hotel experience, Martinez purchased a run-down 82-room motel. She has built the business into a newly remodelled five-star rated operation.

Westinghouse Hanford Company

Dan Swaim, Westinghouse Hanford Company's director of emergency, safety and quality services has been named vice president and technical director of Safe Sites of Colorado. Safe Sites is responsible for nuclear operations at the U.S. Department of Energy's Rocky Flats site near Denver. Safe Sites of Colorado is a limited liability corporation owned by Westinghouse Electric Corporation, the parent company of Westinghouse Hanford, and Babcock and Wilcox, Inc.

Rubicon Games, Inc.

Rubicon Games, Inc. announced that it has reached an agreement to purchase the Everway Roleplaying Game line from Wizards of the Coast, Inc. Rubicon Games will maintain game designer Jonathan Tweet's original vision while continuing to develop a new product line. Tweet will join Rubicon Games' board of directors, allowing him an active role in the development of Everway.
