Cascade Designs

John Burroughs has been appointed president of Cascade Designs, the Seattle-based firm which makes self-inflating Therm-a-Rest mattresses. Burroughs was previously vice president. Former president Jim Lea will continue as chairman of the board and will concentrate on research and development. Burroughs and Lea co-founded Cascade Designs in 1972. Burroughs developed the market for the camping mattresses in the U.S. and abroad.

Odyssey

Odyssey, the new maritime discovery center under construction at Pier 66, received a $30,000 donation from the city of Kobe, Japan. The donation includes $15,000 from Seattle's sister city and $5,000 each from Hyogo Prefecture Port Terminal Operators Association, the Hyogo Warehousemen's Association and the Kobe Freight Forwarders Association. Odyssey is a private non-profit organization. More than $7 million of the $12.6 million capital budget has been raised.

Rita Ryder honored

Rita Ryder, executive director of the YWCA of Seattle-King County-Snohomish County, received the Professional Achievement Award from the Northwest Development Officers Association. She runs the $7.1 million organization, directs a staff of 140 and has completed three capital campaigns totalling $8 million.

Bellevue Boys and Girls Club grant

The Bellevue Boys and Girls Club has been selected as one of 20 sites across the country to receive a grant from the Taco Bell Foundation to establish and enhance a teen center program. Funding totals $66,000 over three years. The money will be used to fund a career development program for teens and will employ teenagers at the Ground Zero Teen Center.

Lumbermen's of Washington, Inc.

Lumbermen's of Washington, Inc., a 36-store chain of retail building material centers in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho, announced the acquisition of Regnier Lumber in Bend, Ore. After a two-week transition period, Regnier Lumber will open as Lumbermen's on June 10. Lumbermen's is a part of the Redmond-based Lanoga Corporation which also operates 10 stores in Alaska under the name of Spenard Builders Supply and 113 stores in the Midwest and Rocky Mountain states under the names of United Building Centers and Fish Building Supplies.

Intermark Communications

Intermark Communications, a Redmond Internet consulting firm, announced the launch of the "Executive Technology Letter," a monthly analysis of online technology for business executives, owners and managers. The newsletter covers four areas each month: technology trends impacting business, online business resources, a "case study" of businesses utilizing in Internet, and a review of technology concepts as applied to business.

Spectrum Sports & Entertainment

Spectrum Sports & Entertainment has drafted Mike McCain for the newly created position of director of baseball. McCain will scout for college placement and pro draft prospects, assist top high school baseball players target colleges where they may play, and coordinate student athlete presentation packages for college coaches. McCain brings years of baseball coaching experience to Spectrum, including positions at Arizona State University, semi-pro Seattle Studs and West Seattle Cruisers.

Panorama City

Joseph J. Di Santo, a 25-year hotel and retirement living executive, has been named the new chief operating officer of Panorama City in Lacy. Di Santo has held executive positions in the hospitality and retirement industries across the United States. He was most recently senior general manager of Beverly Enterprises, Inc. which operates 14 major retirement communities and 800 nursing homes across the country.

Sellers & Company

Sellers & Company, formerly known as Linda Sellers Communications, has added two new associates: Karen Johnson and Francine Ott . In addition, the company has added Hewlett-Packard's printer division to its client list.

Continental Mortgage

Herb Alden and Dawayne Rainwater have joined the Seattle branch of Continental Mortgage as loan officers. They will both assist real estate agents and home buyers in home financing programs, including FHA, VA, conventional, jumbo, state bond loans for first-time buyers, and remodeling/rehabilitation loans.

Lynnwood Mortgage

Lynnwood Mortgage Corp.'s branch at Mountlake Terrace has added David Vintertun, a loan officer, and two escrow professionals, Pamela Grubb and Dee Stennes Gooby. Grubb joins the Mountlake Terrace branch as senior vice president of Lynnwood Escrow. She has over 20 years' experience in the mortgage banking industry. Vintertun, who has five years' experience as a loan officer, comes to LMC from Performance Mortgage in Kirkland where he served as vice president and loan officer. Gooby has worked in the escrow business for three years, most recently at the Escrow Works in Lynnwood.

CB Commercial

Paul Sweeney has been promoted to vice president at CB Commercial. Sweeney has been with CB Commercial for nine years, specializing in office sales and leasing in the Bellevue office.

Workshop on sensitive areas

The King County Department of Development and Environmental Services (DDES) is offering a class for the building and real estate industries. "The King County Sensitive Areas Code" is a two-day workshop which includes a field trip to local sensitive areas. Learn about the general provisions of the sensitive areas code, exemptions and exceptions to the code, the nine sensitive areas and how to recognize them, as well as how to get more information. The class is approved for 15 Washington real estate continuing education clock hours. The next workshop will be held at the DDES building in Bellevue on June 19 and 20 and costs $119. Investors' Expo '96

Imperial Real Estate Corp., an independent commercial real estate real estate firm, will host its semi-annual Investors' Expo on Thursday, June 6, and Saturday, June 8. Keynote speakers will be Tom Kelly, a radio talk show host and columnist, and Richard Morse, a real estate attorney and 1031 tax deferred exchange specialist. Investors' Expo '96 topics include industry trends and a slide presentation of currently available inventory.
