Fairwood Golf and Country Club

Fairwood Golf and Country Club has appointed Michael Spayd as the new general manager of the 400-member club in Renton. Spayd formerly served as the general manager of the Valley Club in Sun Valley, Idaho.

Hawkins & Company

Hawkins & Company, a Seattle-based public relations and marketing communications agency, has hired Betsy Rogers as senior account manager. Rogers formerly worked at Kaufer Miller Communications in Bellevue, where she was the account manager for wireless and telecommunications accounts.

Vance, Romero & Montague

Eric Zimbelman has joined the Bellevue law firm of Vance, Romero & Montague as an associate. Zimbelman will focus his practice in the area of business litigation, particularly employment, real estate and intellectual property.

Hammerquist & Saffel

Hammerquist & Saffel, a Seattle-based advertising agency now operating as Hammerquist Saffel & Halverson following a recent merger, won four first-place Northwest Addys. The Addys symbolize the best in creative advertising. A panel of judges from top creative shops in the Pacific Northwest review hundreds of submissions. Print campaigns for Olin Skis and Sims Snowboards brought home top prizes.

First Heritage Bank

Peggy Doph has been elected chairman of the First Heritage Bank board of directors. Doph has been a board member since 1989 and previously served as chairman. First Heritage Bank is a locally owned and operated community bank with branches in Snohomish, Monroe, Marysville and Arlington.

Starbucks

Howard Schultz, chairman and chief executive officer of Starbucks Company, will be the main speaker at Northern Michigan University's graduation ceremonies May 2nd at the Superior Dome. Schultz will receive an honorary Doctor of Humanities degree from his alma mater and be honored with a distinguished alumni award.

Sheraton Seattle Hotel & Towers

Kim Peterson, director of convention services for Sheraton Seattle Hotel & Towers, has earned the designation of certified meeting professional from the Convention Liaison Council. The designation is based on professional experience and academic examination. Peterson has worked for the Sheraton as a convention services staff member for 15 years.

RXL Pulitzer

RXL Pulitzer, an international multimedia and video communications firm with offices in Seattle, has promoted Marleen Eitzen to vice president of project development. Eitzen was previously executive producer in charge of special projects. Stephanie Baldwin has been named project management coordinator for the interactive division, focussing on interactive media production and design. Carman Cano has been named graphic artist. Cano previously served as creative director for Indra, an information and technology firm in Madrid, Spain.

Cushman & Wakefield

Gordon Ahalt, senior managing director of Cushman & Wakefield of Washington, Inc., will step down from that position effective May 1. Ahalt cited personal reasons for the change. He will stay on with the firm in a different capacity. A successor has not been named.

Colliers International

Mark C. Anderson has joined the Bellevue office of Colliers International. Anderson previously worked with Radford & Company in Bellevue for 18 years. At Colliers he will focus on downtown Bellevue and work with other retail clients in the region.

NAIOP

Michael Silvey, an attorney with Foster Pepper & Shefelman LLP, has been elected president of the Oregon chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties. Silvey has practiced real estate law for 26 years, of which the last seven have been with Foster Pepper & Shefelman. He is the managing partner of the firm's Portland office.

ERA Care

Robert Becker has been named director of ERA Care's Bellevue retirement community called The Meydenbauer. The apartment complex, at 10022 Meydenbauer Way, S.E, has 50 units and has been remodeled and renovated. Becker has 20 years' experience administering adult education and community development programs in Colorado and Utah. Since moving to this area in 1986, he has taught in the Seattle School District and at the American Indian Heritage School, and has worked on senior recreation programs at ERA Care's Ida Culver House Broadview and University House.

Real estate classes online

Pierce College, with campuses in Puyallup and Lakewood, has begun offering continuing-education real estate courses online. The first covers real estate law and is worth three credits or 30 clock-hours. Upcoming courses will delve into purchase and sale agreements and real estate brokerage management. The law course is an introduction to real estate law and the legal system, including forms of property ownership, limited partnerships, easments, leasehold estates and leases, title and transfer of title, fraud, landlord-tenant laws and other issues. Insignia/Forum

Insignia/Forum Commercial Group has been selected by CarrAmerica Realty Corporation to market and lease Sunset Corporate Park, a 32.5-acre masterplanned office/flex campus in Hillsboro, Ore. The park will feature eight buildings, including build-to-suit, totaling about 427,000 square feet for office, research and development, engineering and light manufacturing. Construction will begin in May.
