TCI Media Services has named Keri Pickel local sales manager in the Seattle office. Pickel most recently worked at Entercom Seattle/KIRO Radio; and formerly worked at TCI for eight years in a similar position. Marilyn Sierra has joined the Seattle office as office manager.
Michael Garner has been named outreach coordinator of SunPointe Senior Living, a new 70-unit assisted living and Alzheimer's care residence in Bellevue. Garner formerly worked as marketing director for senior care facilities at Barnes, Campbell & Smith in Redmond.
At the 10th annual Corporate Council Celebrates the Arts luncheon, the Council presented community achievement awards to the Allen Foundation for the Arts, Priscilla Bullitt Collins and Glynn Ross. The Allen Foundation was recognized for its significant grants to a wide range of cultural organizations. Collins' contributions have reached throughout the community to include the environment, affordable housing and the arts. Ross was recognized as the founding director of Seattle Opera.
Jane Kilburn, former corporate communications director for Puget Sound Energy of Bellevue, has been named public affairs director for the Port of Seattle.
King County Councilmember Greg Nickels was unanimously re-elected to serve as chair of the King County Board of Health. The Board of Health is a regional body made up of 22 elected representatives and members of the public health community to guide health policy in King County. Nickels has served as the chair since the board was established in 1996.
Keith Herbert has been named president of Process Combustion Corp. Herbert will direct worldwide business aspects of the company's custom-engineered pollution control and thermal oxidation systems. Herbert was formerly vice president.
Ken Harmon was recently promoted to superintendent at McCarthy. Harmon is a 14-year veteran at McCarthy and most recently served as general foreman.
Bostik Inc., an international adhesives and sealants company, has hired David E. Danzer as its territory manager for Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Alaska and Wyoming. Danzer will operate from the Seattle area. He most recently served as a territory sales manager for Atlas Supply Inc. of Seattle. He is a graduate of the University of Oregon.
Unimark Construction Co. has hired Jim Hateley and Mark Jelinek as field superintendents. Both will serve as on-site managers for the company's tenant improvement and special project construction assignments in downtown Seattle and the Puget Sound region. Hateley has 15 years of tenant improvement and remodel experience. Jelinek has 13 years of tenant improvement and supervisory experience.
Two Spokane-based contractors, Shea Construction Inc. and Eric R. Brown Construction Inc., have merged. Under the terms of the deal, Brown Construction will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Shea Construction and Eric Brown will become an equity partner in Shea Construction. Also, Eric Brown has been appointed executive vice president along with Dick Lopes of Shea Construction. The administrative and field staff of Brown Construction will become employees of Shea Construction. President David Shea plans to increase his company's volume and market area with the merger.
BELLINGHAM -- Duke Engineering & Services Inc. (DE&S) has signed a letter of intent to acquire Cascades Environmental Services Inc. (CES), a Bellingham environmental consulting firm that specializes in hydropower, water resources, mining and forestry. "This was a friendly and very much of a cooperative strategic acquisition," said Kent Doughty, one of CES' four principals. "All of our current employees will remain in place, and we may experience some growth." CES has 12 full-time employees and another 10 temporary, seasonal employees, Doughty said. CES' name will officially change to DE&S on July 1. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. In addition to the new Bellingham office, DE&S' Hydropower and Water Resources business unit operates from offices in Bothell, Sacramento, Calif., Charlotte, N.C., and Portland, Maine. DE&S is an independently-operated affiliate of Duke Energy. DE&S has 3,000 employees who work in 33 U.S. offices and 15 international offices. The company provides engineering, regulatory and environmental consulting services to hydropower and other clients. Doughty said CES has served as a subconsultant to DE&S on several projects. John Devine, DE&S' vice president of Hydropower and Water Resources, said: "Joining forces with CES would strengthen our resources in the western U.S., particularly in the natural resources and environmental areas."
SEATTLE -- Vivianne Larkin, manager of URS Greiner's environmental services division, has been appointed a vice president of the company. Larkin is responsible for environmental planning and permitting, ecological and human-health risk assessments, air-quality assessments, biological surveys and environmental investigations for real-estate transactions. She oversees all of the company's projects in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Alaska conducted for U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 10 under the Alternative Remedial Contract Strategy (ARCS). She also is the program manager for URS Greiner's successful bid for the upcoming 10-year, $100 million EPA Region 10 Response Action Contracts (RAC). Larkin directs all of URS Greiner's environmental work in Alaska, including $8 million worth of environmental projects associated with the closure of a U.S. Navy base in the Aleutian Islands. She is experienced in Superfund litigation support and has provided expert witness testimony in depositions and jury trials. Headquartered in San Francisco, URS Corp. has two operating divisions: URS Greiner and Woodward-Clyde. URS Corp. has more than 150 offices in 18 countries. Larkin works in URS Greiner's Seattle office.
PORTLAND -- Martha S. Knowlton has been named to Kennedy/Jenks Consultants' board of directors. She joins existing board members Nathan A. Graves, Douglas B. Henderson, David D. Kennedy, Edward C. Kistner, Ira S. Rackley, John H. Rayner, Lynn M. Takaichi, Donald R. Weiden and John M. Stedman. Knowlton is an environmental consultant with more than 18 years of experience working for industrial clients. During her 11 years with Kennedy/Jenks, she has directed environmental assessments, investigations and cleanups of industrial properties throughout the western United States. Her area of expertise is providing environmental services to the wood-products industry. Knowlton is a vice president at Kennedy/Jenks and manager of the company's Portland office.
SEATTLE -- Patrick Verbout has joined Prezant Associates as accounting manager. He will be responsible for all of the company's financial operations and accounting staff. Verbout has a bachelor's degree in business economics and agricultural business management from Eastern Oregon State College. He formerly worked as accounting manager for OHM Remediation Services Inc. Based in Seattle, Prezant specializes in industrial hygiene, workplace safety, training and laboratory services.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Mark Schindler has joined Parametrix Alaska as manager of the company's oil and gas industry consulting group in Anchorage. Formerly with Arco Alaska Inc., Schindler has nearly 20 years of experience in land management, permitting and government and native relations. He was director of permitting and compliance for the Alpine Development Project, one of Arco's major oil and gas discoveries. Schindler previously led negotiations which shaped development of Arco's Prudhoe Bay and Kuparuk units, the two largest oil and gas fields in North America. Since his arrival at Parametrix, Schindler has been providing strategic planning, regulatory compliance and litigation support to Arco for the Alpine Development Project. Parametrix Alaska's other clients include BP Oil Shipping Co. USA, SeaRiver Maritime Inc., Tesoro Alaska Petroleum Co. and Chevron Shipping Co.
