The Washington Supreme Court has appointed Scott A. Smith and Michele E. Jones to the Washington State Access to Justice Board, an independent board established by the court to promote equal access to the legal system for low and moderate income people. Smith is partner at Short Cressman & Burgess and Jones is director of the Child Advocacy Clinic at the University of Washington School of Law.
Joseph E. Poff, a CPA based in Kent, is the national recipient of the 1998 Innovative User of Technology award, given by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Poff created a demonstration electronic commerce store that shows on-line customers how they can determine if a web site is safe for credit card buying.
Denise Hoyt has been named executive director of Stafford Suites, a senior living apartment community in Port Orchard. Hoyt recently served as director of support services at Belmont Terrace in Bremerton. Stafford Suites will be completed at the end of this year.
The Bellevue office of Technology Integration Group has contracted to provide and install a computer system for the state of Washington. TIG won the $8 million bid from the Department of Information Systems to update the computer system for all 46 Department of Social and Health Services locations.
Siemens Medical Systems, Inc., Ultrasound Group has named Dean Winter vice president of ultrasound sales in the United States. Winter previously served as director of national sales for Toshiba's ultrasound division. The Ultrasound Group, based in Issaquah, provides diagnostic imaging and advanced medical electronics systems.
The Walter Group, a Seattle-based telecommunications management consulting and project management firm, along with Western Wireless International and RF Communications, has been awarded a license to operate Ireland's third mobile phone system. The consortium operated under the name of Meteor Mobile Communications and will offer wireless service in the major cities of Ireland by summer 1999.
Systemic Solutions, a Seattle-based technology management company specializing in Year 2000 business solutions, announced that Excell Data Corp. has joined its Alliance Partner Program. Excell Data will be a partner with Systemic in the delivery of custom-based Year 2000 solutions to businesses throughout Washington, Oregon and California.
Washington State University has selected English professor and former administrator Barbara Couture of Wayne State University in Michigan to become dean of the College of Liberal Arts.
The King County Art Gallery has a new on-line site to view gallery exhibitions, at wwwmetrokc.govexecculturegallery. The site contains the visual documentation, press material and artists' statements created for regular exhibitions. The art gallery program's physical address is 506 Second Ave., Suite 1115, in Seattle.
