Aaron Benevich, formerly with the Ogden Murphy Wallace law firm, has joined the Seattle office of Davis Wright Tremaine as an associate. Benevich will serve as a member of the tax department.
Joyce F. Jackson has joined Northwest Kidney Centers as chief executive officer. Jackson formerly served as chief executive leader at Virginia Mason Medical Center. Northwest Kidney Centers is a Seattle-based nonprofit corporation established in 1962 as the first freestanding, outpatient dialysis facility in the world.
Judge Donald D. Haley of the King County Superior Court was elected chair of the National Conference of State Trial Judges for 1998-1999. The conference is the largest of the six in the Judicial Divisions, with over 1500 state trial judges throughout the United States.
Scott Fero has been promoted to creative director of JayRay Ads & PR, an advertising and public relations firm with offices in Seattle and Tacoma. Fero previously served as art director.
DaVinci Gourmet, a Seattle-based producer of gourmet flavored syrups, has appointed Aaron Ruona as territory manager for Washington and Brent Miller as key account manager. Ruona will focus on increasing product availability and identifying new business opportunities. Miller will be responsibility for developing sales and promotional opportunities with key distributors and retailers.
Stoel Rives, a Pacific Northwest law firm, is continuing to expand its regional base and has doubled the size of its Salt Lake City office. Eleven new partners and seven associates from the Van Corr Bagley firm in Salt Lake recently joined Stoel Rives.
Mutual Bancshares, whose subsidiaries include Everett Mutual Bank and Commercial Bank of Everett, announced the formation of a venture capital fund and a new subsidiary to manage that fund. Mutual Bancshares Capital Inc. will serve as the general partner of the new $7,000,000 fund. John E. Thoresen, currently president of the Economic Development Council of Snohomish County, will serve as president of Mutual Bancshares Capital and general partner of Bancshares Capital Limited Partnership.

Daniel J. Caplinger has joined the law firm Lane Powell Spears Lubersky in the Seattle office as an associate and will concentrate his practice in the areas of estate planning and business.
John R. DiPalma has joined PacifiCare as vice president of customer service for the Northwest region, including Washington and Oregon states. DiPalma formerly served as general manager for Cigna Health Care in Delaware.
Williams, Kastner & Gibbs has added Kristina C. Udall as Of Counsel and Jodi F. Freudenberger as an associate in the law firm's Seattle office. Udall's practice involves estate planning, probate, business and tax planning and charitable giving matters.
Reed McClure recently added Steven Beeghly and Jessica Newman as associates in the Seattle office.
Caffe Luca, in conjunction with Mifune Corp., opened a rooftop coffee bar at Sony Tower in Osaka, Japan. This is the Seattle-based coffee roaster's third location in Japan. Todd Yuratich has been appointed as assistant to the president John Dema. Yuratich most recently served as general manager of the restaurants at Seattle's Four Seasons Olympic Hotel.
Booth Creek Ski Group, owners and operators of eight ski resort complexes, has reached a preliminary agreement for the purchase of Seven Springs Ski Resort near Pittsburgh. Booth currently owns four resorts at Snoqualmie Pass.
