The Cowan Law Firm

Douglas L. Cowan and Vernon A. Smith have recently formed The Cowan Law Firm. The company, located at 3805 108th Ave. N.E., Suite 204 in Bellevue, concentrates on DUI defense work. Cowan formerly served as dean of the National College for DUI Defense at Harvard Law School and has defended over 2,000 DUI and criminal cases. Smith is a founding member of the National College for DUI Defense.

WHaM Communications

WHaM Communications, Seattle-based advertising and public relations agency, was recently named one of the "best PR firms you never heard of" by Inside PR magazine, a national publication covering the public relations industry. WHaM Communications is an 18-person firm developing national and regional brand building marketing communications programs for a variety of clients. WHaM has also been named national agency of record for MediaOne Interactive Services, marketing MediaOne Express, a high-speed broadband cable modem service.

McCann Erickson Seattle

McCann Erickson Seattle (MES) recently promoted John Schofield and Kurt Reifschneider, associate creative directors, to creative directors. Ken Willner has been promoted to director of account management. Zach Hitner, art director, has been promoted to associate creative director.

Olympic Venture Partners

Olympic Venture Partners, a Kirkland-based venture capital firm, has added William Miller as an investing partner. Miller formerly served on the founding management team for the Microsoft Network and also helped launch Safe Harbor Technology Corp. in Satsop, a firm which provides technical support on the Internet.

Market Place Design

Market Place Design, a Portland-based print project management company, has added Traci Kezar as art director and Jody Hart as account executive. Kezar formerly served as creative director for Sonus. Hart formerly worked at Business Internet Solutions.

Continental Savings Bank

Continental Savings Bank recently opened a new branch bank at 4221 Bridgeport Way West in University Place. Beth Ann Lothrop, formerly a senior savings representative, will serve as branch manager.

The Rockey Co.

Randy J. Pepple will join The Rockey Co., a Seattle-based public relations firm, as senior vice president for public affairs in Jan. 1999. Pepple currently serves as chief of staff for Congressman Rick White.

The Arts Legal Clinic

The Arts Legal Clinic, based in downtown Seattle, will offer a new appointment service and schedule in Jan. 1999. The clinic is a service offered by Washington Lawyers for the Arts in collaboration with Artist Trust to provide artists and arts organizations with advice on legal questions. Volunteer lawyers will have office hours twice a month, every second and fourth Monday, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Lawyers will offer half-hour legal advice on contract, copyright and general art law. Appointments can be made by calling (206) 328-7053; donations of $15 per consultation are suggested.

Frank Russell Co.

Frank Russell Co.'s majority owners, George and Jane Russell recently accepted the national family business of the year award in the large company category sponsored by Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. Russell's ownership is expected to pass from its founding family this January as the Tacoma-based investment services company is due to be acquired by Northwestern Mutual Life.

Tower Realty Management

Two new management pros have joined Tower Realty Management Corp. in the Seattle office. Laura Kiekenapp comes to the company in the role of property manager at 520 Pike Tower. She previously had been a building manager with CB Commercial Real Estate Group, where she managed 10 Puget Sound properties with over 623,000 square feet of office, retail and industrial space. Bruce Tuesley has been hired as a leasing manager for 520 Pike Tower. Tuesley previously worked as a project manager at Intracorp in Seattle; prior to that he held leasing and sales positions with Unico Properties, Cushman & Wakefield and IBM.

Alexander Commercial Real Estate

The former David Alexander Co. has changed its name to Alexander Commercial Real Estate. The company has also moved from the 1001 Fourth Avenue Plaza Building to the 29th floor of the Smith Tower. Alexander Commercial Real Estate specializes in services to health care, biopharmaceutical, financial service and high-technology industries.

Windermere

Two Seattle offices of Windermere Real Estate have added new sales agents. Nancy Williams and Katie Brockway have joined the Queen Anne offce. Williams previously worked at Lorig & Associates in Seattle, while Brockway worked at Abbott Real Estate in Seattle. In the Lakeview office, Lori Knuckey has joined the staff after having worked as office manager for Richard Greine DDS.

Coldwell Banker Bain Associates

Kyoko Matsumoto Wright, a sales agent with Coldwell Banker Bain Associates in its Seattle-Capitol Hill office, has been elected president of the Snohomish County-Camano Association of Realtors for 1999. She has served on SCCAR's board of directors for seven years and in a variety of roles. A member of the firm since 1983, she is one of the top producers nationwide for Coldwell Banker.

Ballard Library

First-time homebuyers are invited to three free workshops at the Ballard Library to learn about the homebuying process.
