David Bates and Mike Calkins recently started BC Design, a Seattle-based design firm. Bates and Calkins formerly worked at Hornall Anderson Design Works. After three months in business, BC Design is hiring two more designers to help handle a growing client list.
TargetMarketing Group, a Puget Sound marketing firm, recently relocated its business to the KPQ Building, 32 N. Mission St., Wenatchee. The marketing firm will operate as part of a new company being launched by Jim Wallace Jr., managing partner of Wescoast Broadcasting, which operates three radio stations in the central Washington area. The 11th Annual Capitol Hill Awards Banquet, honoring women business owners, will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., May 20, at the General Petroleum Museum on Capitol Hill. Tina Podlodowski, Seattle City Councilmember, will be the guest speaker and award presenter. Linda Meyer, owner of Frame-It on Broadway, will receive the lifetime recognition award. Betsy Davis, owner of Portage Bay Goods, will receive the achievement award.
Two Downtown, a Seattle-based design and production company, has diversified its services to include exhibit development. Two Downtown designs and creates trade show exhibits together with interactive kiosks, informational displays and point-of-purchase fixtures for retail and museum applications.
The King County Bar Association recently elected Lucy P. Isaki president; Frederick L. Noland first vice president; Ralph Maimon second vice president; David Kerruish secretary; and Catherine D. Shaffer treasurer. John M. Cary and Sharon A. Sakamoto will serve as central district trustees, David Kahn will serve as east district trustee and Jennifer Stevens Payseno will serve as south district trustee.

The non-profit restaurant Boomtown Cafe at 513 Third Ave. served its first meal on Mother's Day to 155 women and children. The free brunch was sponsored by Women's Housing Equality and Enhancement League (WHEEL). Boomtown Cafe officially opens this summer, offering affordable meals to everyone, especially low-income and homeless people. It will accept food stamps as payment.
