Mary Klekotka has been hired as account coordinator for Owen Media, a Seattle-based public relations agency.

Bonaparte, Elliott, Ostrander & Preston

The Portland-based law firm of Bonaparte, Elliott, Ostrander & Preston has opened a Seattle office which will be headed by Karen Wetherell Davis who will continue her practice in intellectual property, entertainment and Internet issues. She was with Koler, Fitzsimmons & Wetherell in Seattle.

Federal Home Loan Bank Board

The Federal Home Loan Bank board of directors has promoted two executives and added a new one to the senior management team. Cynthia Chirot was promoted to executive vice president and chief operating officer. Kelli Bono was named senior vice president and chief financial officer and David Bley joins the bank as senior vice president and director of corporate and community affairs.

Xypoint, Wireless Services

Xypoint Corp. of Seattle and Wireless Services Corp. of Bellevue announced the two companies have formed a technology alliance to provide e-businesses with secure services linking wireless phones with the Internet. The privately held companies, led by former McCaw Cellular and Microsoft executives, are developing a secure technology platform called WebWireless, which will enable consumers to conduct high-value transactions through Internet-based businesses. It will be available in the fourth quarter of this year.

The Marketing Company Int'l

The Marketing Company Int'l has been hired by hotels in Vancouver and Victoria, B.C., to help build revenues through direct sales representation in the U.S. The Ramada Limited on Pender Street in Vancouver and the Howard Johnson Canterbury Inn on George Road East in Victoria are the new accounts. The Seattle-based company helps mid-level hotel owners and managers reduce costs and boost revenues.

Elgin DDB

Elgin DDB announced two new hires at the Seattle communications company. John Kendrick is a new vice president in the Washington D.C. satellite office. Joe Turcotte is senior account executive for the New York State Research and Development Authority account.

Douglas County PUD

T. James Davis, commission vice president of Douglas County PUD, received the Paul J. Raver Award at the annual meeting of the Northwest Public Power Association in Calgary. The award honors commitment to public power and community activities.

Safeco

Hank Masset has been named Atlanta division manager for Safeco Commercial Insurance. He succeeds Jim Stiegler who will be based in Seattle to head the Safeco Select Markets division.

Netdesk

Cheryl Hawley has joined the team of instructors at Netdesk Corp. in Seattle as a Microsoft certified trainer. She was an NT LAN administrator/senior GIS technician at Champion Pacific Timberlands. Netdesk is a training center for advanced Microsoft technology.

Seattle Department of Neighborhoods

The Seattle Department of Neighborhoods announced that two neighborhood service centers are moving. The Central service center will move from the 1800 block of South Jackson to Promenade 23 at 23rd and South Jackson. It is staffed by Ted Divina and Cea Cea Bicknell who provide services to businesses, residents and community organizations. Garry Owens and Bernie Matsumo will join the office to help with the Neighborhood Matching Fund program and Darlene Flynn will work on the neighborhood planning implementation. The Greenwood service center will move to 8515 Greenwood Ave. N., with a larger space to accommodate community meetings and visiting city staff and officials.

Callison Architecture

Elizabeth Morgan has joined Callison Architecture as the new business developer responsible for the health care, corporate and hospitality divisions. Prior to joining Callison, Morgan was director of business development for the Seattle office of Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum. Morgan has 16 years of experience in business development and marketing in the architecture and engineering industry.

BOORA

Thomas Bauer has been promoted to associate principal of BOORA Architects in Portland, and advances to ownership in the firm. Bauer joined BOORA one year ago. A registered architect with 14 years of professional experience, he was a principal of Oz Architecture in Denver. Prior to that, he spent five years as a project architect with Hardy Holzman Pfeiffer and Skidmore Owings and Merrill in Los Angeles. He holds a master's degree in architecture from Harvard University. He is the point contact and project manager for a comprehensive master plan for projects at Linfield College. He is also the project manager for a $20 million addition and remodel to the Intramural Activities Building at the University of Washington.

Group West

Edward Hanbicki, an architect, has been hired by Group West Associates as manager of the firm's development strategies division. Based in Lynnwood, Group West is a design firm.

Freiheit & Ho Architects

Kevin Chow has advanced to the position of associate of Freiheit & Ho Architects in Bellevue. Chow is project manager for the Quinault Resort and Casino in Ocean Shores and several ExtendedStay America hotels in Washington and California. Derek Arnold has joined the firm as an architectural draftsman. Arnold is currently working on retail and commercial projects for the firm. He served in the Navy for six years and graduated from the Naval Nuclear Power School. Jamie Ho has joined the firm as an architectural draftsman. Previously, she worked at firms in San Diego and Spokane. David Taylor has also joined the firm as an architectural draftsman.

Parametrix

John Marsh has joined Parametrix as the firm's director of the Fisheries/Endangered Species Act program. Marsh will assist clients in strategic planning for Endangered Species Act compliance. Formerly with the Northwest Power Planning Council and the Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission, Marsh has over 20 years of experience integrating fisheries management with regional and national policy throughout the Columbia River basin.

Walker Macy

Alan Johnson has joined Walker Macy, a Portland-based landscape architecture firm, as its senior designer and project manager. Johnson has over 24 years of professional experience, including work in Portland, and has worked for Hellmuth, Obata and Kassabaum in St. Louis, specializing in large-scale planning and design projects. Brennan Buck has joined the firm as a landscape designer. Buck is working on the Corvallis Riverfront Commemorative Park as well as the Peace Arch Border Crossing at Blaine. He has a degree in landscape architecture from Cornell University. Also joining the firm is Ross Swanson. He is assisting in the preparation of construction documents for the New Neighborhood Park at Orenco Station and downtown Portland's South Waterfront Park. Rachel Sullivan has joined the firm as an office assistant.

Studio Meng Strazzara

Meng Associates, an architectural firm with a 23-year history in the Pacific Northwest, has changed its name to Studio Meng Strazzara. The firm adopted the new name as Charles Strazzara has been promoted to partner. He will be leading the firm's growing commercial and retail design group. The firm is also branching out to educational design in both K-12 and higher educational facilities. The firm's analysis group will operate under the name Meng Analysis.

Baylis Architects

Leslie Stark has joined Baylis Architects in Bellevue as the marketing/public relations manager.

Shockey Brent

Harley Mattson has joined Shockey Brent in Everett as a planner. Mattson has planning experience in both the private and public sectors. Her specialty lies in the areas of subdivision and boundary line adjustment. She is a graduate of Eastern Washington University.

HDR

Jason Sharpley has been hired by HDR Engineering as a water/wastewater engineer in the company's Seattle office. Prior to joining HDR, Sharpley was an intern for the Ann Arbor, Mich., water treatment plant, where he assisted in designing pilot filters, managed on-site construction and performed tests on pilot filters for the plant. He recently received a master's degree in engineering from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Trial Lawyers Association

The Washington State Trial Lawyers Association elected Janet Rice of the Seattle firm of Schroeter, Goldmark & Bender, as WSTLA's new president. Rice, 48, has been an attorney 20 years and resides in Seattle. Her practice is composed primarily of torts and product liability litigation, parole supervision cases, and personal injury claims. She presented the Trial Lawyer of the Year award to Seattle attorneys Jan Peterson and Fred Zeder both of Peterson, Young, Putra, Fletcher & Zeder for their case on behalf of a Kennewick teenager paralyzed by diving into a negligently designed swimming pool.
